Aarav Malhotra
Checking myself one last time I exited my apartment. I drove to my office. There I picked up Liam, and we both drove to the hall where the RFP (Request for proposal) meeting is held. We sat on the seat allotted to us. Soon the meeting began. Mr. Karan's secretary began the speech about the project. "Only the best of ten will be selected," he said. "So shall we begin?" he asked, looking towards Mr. Karan. He gave a small nod, and his secretary announced the commencement of the meeting. One by one, everyone started explaining their project. The top 10 companies are competing, so of course the ideas will be unique and great.
Ours was last, so I had enough time to observe others. Soon our turn came. I got up, walking to the stage with confidence. I got to the stage, and all the eyes were on me, and I could feel Mr. Karan looking at me excitedly. I began to explain my project. "Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I feel honored to stand in front of you all, explaining my project. So the main concept of this RFP is to give ideas for a charitable building with multi-specialty amenities. Our idea is called "The Harmony Haven." It's the place where people from different backgrounds come together to lend their hand in helping others. Here we adopt people and animals who are abandoned by their families. We give them a new life, changing them completely. The given area for this project is 10 acres. But" I paused, looking at Mr. Karan. The room fell silent, eagerly waiting for my words. "The area for the project will be 20 acres, not 10. From my side, I'll provide 10 more acres," I said. Everyone in the hall clapped for my offer. But my only focus was on Mr. Karan. He looked at me, and his face was expressionless. I continued to explain my idea, which includes all the required amenities not only for the rescued people but also for the village that is nearby the site. "My motive is not only to help the rescued people but also to the people around the site. Just a few kilometers away from our site, there is a village where more than 500 families live. So, our idea not only benefits a few people but more than 500 families," I said. I continued to explain the idea. Sharply after 15 minutes, I concluded my speech and got down from the stage. I sat on my seat, turning to Liam. He had a huge grin on his face. "If I were a girl, I would've been on my knees for you right now, " he said. I twitched my lips in disgust. "You were amazing Mr. Aarav," he said, clapping his hands. I shook my head and turned to the stage.
Mr. Karan's secretary got onto the stage. He grabbed the mic and started to speak. "Once again, good afternoon, all. Every one of your ideas was amazing, but" he paused and sighed. "But only one will be chosen from the ten, and the winner will be announced by Mr. Karan," he said, passing the mic to Mr. Karan. The hall eroded with clappings. "Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I appreciate all of your hard work. Everyone's idea was amazing and unique, but since I can only choose one. I chose the best out of ten," Mr. Karan said and paused for a moment. "The reason why I chose this person's idea is because I like the idea of not only helping the rescued but also the people around," he said, looking at me. I gave him a small smile in return. "Mr. Aarav," he called, gesturing to me to come up to the stage. I stood up and stepped towards the stage. I stood beside him while he looked at the audience. "I officially announce that Mr. Aarav Malhotra will be my partner for the upcoming project," he announced. The hall eroded with claps. I bent down a little to thank everyone. I turned to look at Mr. Karan, but he was already looking at me smiling. I gave him a small smile. "I would like to meet you after this, Mr. Aarav," he said. I nodded my head in response. I had small talk with a few people before meeting up with Mr. Karan. I searched for him in the crowd but couldn't find him. I saw his secretary speaking with someone. I quickly went near him and gently tapped on his shoulder. "Mr. Aarav, do you need anything? " he asked, turning around to look at me. "May I know where Mr. Karan is?" I asked him. "So sorry Mr. Aarav. He went to his house. He asked me to inform you about it, but I couldn't because of the arrival of a few guests," he apologized. "It's fine. No issues," I said. "Mr. Karan asked you to meet him for lunch tomorrow," he said. I nodded. "Sure. Then I'll get going," I said, to which he nodded, smiling at me. I called Liam, and we both left the hall to the office.
I entered the apartment losing my tie and removing my shoes. I threw my phone on the table near the couch and plopped myself on the couch. I exhaled, staring at the ceiling. Soon the past memories started to haunt me. My chest tightened, and it was getting hard to breathe. I tried to calm myself, but it was all useless. I quickly got up and stumbled to the kitchen. Opening the fridge, I took a bottle of water and gulped it down. I started to slow my breath. Slowly, I calmed myself and left to take a shower. The hot water running through calmed me down. It was burning my skin, but who cares? This pain is distracting me from my past; that's what matters. After an hour, I came out of the shower. I changed into something comfortable and sat on the bed, grabbing my laptop to work. Sleep is something that left me years ago. I have sleeping pills, but that too doesn't work much. I engrossed myself in work, getting lost in it.
