A New Beginning

The Lucknow streets are bustling with traffic even in the early morning. People hurrying to their daily chaotic lives. The sun beats down hard on them, scorching every corner of the street in an intense fusion of heat.

A white jeep, strolling through the roads catches the attention of several passersby. The jeep is a government issued vehicle and inside there sits, Ms. Haseena Malik, or "Madam Sirr" as she was popularly known all throughout Lucknow.

The vehicle skids to a stop in front of a gigantic building swarming with police officers. Two male constables rush to open the door, slowly sidestepping to make space for their superior.

Her brown shoes beat down hard on the ground. She gets down and steadies herself in her ever ready and composed position. Her uniform, crisp and ironed shines in the light. She rotates her baton in her left hand, her signature style.

"Jai Hind", the two officers salute her.

She nods her head and acknowledges them as she walks forward to her new office, her body swaying in rhythm and motion.

Another constable leads her to the office, salutes her and leaves her alone.

She looks around the room, her eyes grazing every nook and corner, her mind reminiscenting of all times she was here when she was just an SHO.

The room was comparatively bigger and much comfier than her cabin at MPT yet she felt like it lacked something. Something that she felt not on the outside but deep down inside of her.

She walked towards her chair, a plush leather-backed draped with a laced white cloth, pushing it back to be seated. She sank down, momentarily sinking into its comfort and luxury.

It didn't take her long to furnish the cabin yet she still couldn't ignore the butterflies fluttering in her stomach. She couldn't figure out the reason behind it until at last her eyes settled on a picture on her desk. Her most prized possession.

She missed her team at MPT. The friendship. The camaraderie. The confrontation. She missed everything about it.

She sank back down heaving a loud breath. Her mind wandered down to the past. To where she left her heart. To her home. To the MPT.

"Jai hind", a voice called out interrupting her daze.

She quickly realigned herself.

"Jai hind", she said smiling. "Ap?"

"Jai Hind, DSP madam, Constable Ajay Sharma reporting."

With that he saluted again and left leaving Haseena alone with her thoughts.

Just then her phone rang. She looked at the caller screen. Karishma Singh.

She smiled.

"Jai Hind, madam sir, mera matlav DSP madam", said Karishma.

"Jai Hind, Karishma, Ms SHO."

"Ap kese ho madam? Sab tik ho?"

"Ha Karishma Singh sab tik hei. Aur kese ho ab sab?"

"Hum sub bilkul bee teek hai, madam."

"Jai Hind, Madam sir", puspha ji's voice called.

She laughed. "Jai hind, Pushpa Ji."

"Madam sir, Jai Hind", cheetah answered.

Haseena talked with them for sometime, gradually falling back to their old ways until it was time for them to part ways and handle their own responsibilities.
