" dead people are supposed to stay dead "
HOPE had decided to clear her head with a run around the neighborhood, her sneakers hitting the pavement in rhythmic thuds as she replayed the events of the previous night in her mind. The cool morning air filled her lungs, but it did little to ease the tension that had settled in her chest. Everything had spiraled so quickly. From what Elena had shared with her, she, Damon, and Alaric had come up with a bold plan to take down Stefan—an attempt to lock him up and force him to turn his humanity back on. It hadn't gone as smoothly as they'd hoped. But while that situation was troubling, what weighed most heavily on Hope's mind was her looming conversation with Caleb. He had seen something the night before—something no human should have to witness. His dead sister, Vicki, had appeared as a ghost, and the look on Caleb's face had been one of shock and disbelief. Hope had been unsure how to explain it all to him. But then it hit her—Caleb was far more involved in the supernatural world than she had realized. She hadn't been able to gauge just how deep, but it was clear now that they both had things to discuss. They'd agreed to meet later at Mystic Grill to talk it over, to lay their cards on the table.
Hope rounded the corner and approached the Salvatore Boarding House, her pace slowing as she neared the grand, somewhat eerie structure. She hadn't expected anything out of the ordinary when she pushed open the heavy doors, but as she stepped inside, her brows furrowed in confusion. The living room was unusually quiet, save for the crackling of the fireplace. Then her eyes landed on Damon Salvatore, tied to a chair in the center of the room.
