It was cold, autumn morning on a lazy Saturday. The sun had not quite risen yet, giving the clouds a beautiful blend of blue and pink to sky drift about. Frost had formed on the windows of the Beacon dormitories, and the faint songs of the morningbirds were the only thing breaking the otherwise tranquil silence that filled the building. It was looking to be a nice, relaxing day- or at least it would have been, had it not been for a high-pitched squeal that echoed from Team RWBY's dorm room as Ruby leapt out of her bed.
"EEEEE! It's October 31st!" she cheered, landing next to Weiss as the heiress exited the bathroom, causing her partner to jump in surprise. "Do you know what today is?!"
"Ruined?" Weiss said tiredly, pinching the bridge of her nose. "I am not really one for loud noises this early in the morning..."
"Oh, don't be such a spoilsport," Blake told the heiress from where she laid on her bed, currently reading one of her trashy romance novels. The raven-haired girl gave Ruby a smile. "Happy Hallo-"
"Happy birthday, Rubes!" Yang whooped, throwing her arms around her sister from behind, getting an annoyed squawk out of Ruby.
"What? Ruby's birthday is on Halloween?" Weiss asked in surprise. Judging from the expression on Blake's face, she had not known this either.
"Yep!" Ruby said with a grin, finally managing to squirm her way out of her older sister's hug. "That's what makes it my favorite holidays! I get oodles of candy from trick-or-treating, and then Yang always bakes me her signature pink cake for when I get home. What's even nicer is that because of all the Halloween parties my schools have thrown over the years, I was always able to have a fun birthday without all the attention being directed at me!"
"But isn't the whole point of a birthday that you're the center of attention?" Blake pointed out, causing the silver-eyed girl to shudder.
"And let everyone get a front row seat to me pigging out on sweets? No thanks!"
"In any case, Beacon Academy is hosting a costume party this evening," Yang said, "so me and the gals of Team ALPN thought it would be fun if our teams headed to head to Vale together and choose some costumes."
"Really?" Ruby asked, her silver eyes sparkling with excitement. "And here I was planning to raid the locker room to go as a toilet paper mummy..."
"You would do that," Weiss scoffed, shaking her head in bemusement.
"There's this really nice clothing store I heard about," Yang went on. "It's called Corduroy's, and they offer a discount to any and all students of Beacon Academy!"
"Well, that's all well and good," Blake said, "but do they allow Faunus to shop there? Let's not forget what happened the last time we all went out into Vale together..."
"Relax, Blake. Corduroy's isn't run by bigots," Yang said. "Velvet shops there from time to time. So we don't have to worry about Adam being left out of the fun."
"If you can even convince him to join in to begin with," Weiss added. "He does not really strike me as the type of person to enjoy wearing a mask." Behind her, Blake made a face, but nobody noticed.
"Oh, I'm sure Nora and I will be able to get him to dress up," Ruby declared, placing her hands on her hips. "I'll use my puppy eyes on him if I have to!"

"Does this outfit make me look fat?" Pyrrha asked, holding a witch costume up in front of her body, as she checked herself out in front of a mirror.
"Pyrrha, trust me, a girl of your physique would look skinny in a g-string," Yang said, causing the Invincible Girl's cheeks to flush bright pink.
"Ugh, really Yang? I believe we could all do without such inappropriate commentary," Weiss stated. The heiress was currently looking between two princess dresses, comparing them. "I have met boys who were less lewd than you are."
