CHAPTER SIXTEEN

▃▃▃▃▃▃▃

Natalie knew she was fucked when Pope crashed her dad's truck. And things only got 10x worse when they saw that Rafe and Reinfield took the cross.

At the moment, Natalie was sitting in the backseat of the Twinkie, her head resting on Kiara's shoulder. They were heading back to Cooper's truck after abandoning it to go to the church.

When they arrived at the truck, they saw that the police were there, immediately making them panic. Natalie cursed underneath her breath as Shoupe walked up to John B's window with his flashlight. She pulled JJ's hat down, trying her best to hide her face.

"Good evening, Officer." John B greeted.

"Sheriff." Shoupe corrected him.

"Sheriff. Yeah, that's right. Speed kills, huh?"

"I pulled the tags, and I know whose truck that is." Shoupe replied, shining his flashlight in Natalie's face. "Hey, Nat. You drop your weed pen back there?"

Natalie sheepishly smiled. "Found it."

"Sheriff, I just wanna say that this is all my fault." Pope spoke, gaining Shoupe's attention. "She had nothing to do with this. I take 100% responsibility."

"Nothing to do with it? You wanna try that again?" When Pope didn't respond, Shoupe looked back at Natalie. "Your parents reported the truck missing four hours ago, and the keys were missing from the house. I'm taking you home. Or I can pull you all in for leaving the scene of an accident."

Natalie sighed. "Okay."

"Good. Plumb."

Plumb went around the Twinkie to slide open the back door. Natalie got out of the truck, turning to face her friends.

"Make sure I look pretty at my funeral." She said dramatically.

JJ opened the door and stepped out of the Twinkie. Before Natalie could ask what he was doing, he planted his lips on hers. Their friends awkwardly looked away while Shoupe rolled his eyes at the two, muttering something underneath his breath. Natalie reached her hand up and placed it on the back of his head, fingers curling in his blonde locks.

"Okay, that's enough." Shoupe said. "Come on. Let's go, Natalie."

JJ pulled away, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear. "Don't die on me, all right?"

"Yeah, I'll try." She muttered, giving him a quick kiss before she was pulled away by Plumb.

JJ stayed where he was, watching her get in the backseat of the police car. He stressfully ran his fingers through his hair, turning to face his friends, who all looked deeply worried for Natalie as well.

When Natalie arrived home, she didn't even spare a glance at Shoupe as she got out of the car. The front door opened as soon she reached it, her mom waving at Shoupe to thank him for bringing her home safely.

Natalie walked in the house, about to head upstairs to her room, but froze when she heard her mom speak.

"Kitchen. Now."
