“Acting like what?” she shot back. “Ilang linggo ka nang dumi-distansya , Kio. You barely talk to me anymore, you’re always on your phone, and when we’re together, it’s like I’m not even here. What’s going on?”

Kio sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “Look, Cassie, I’m just… I’ve had a lot on my mind.”

“That’s not an answer,” Cassie said, crossing her arms. “Who were you talking to just now?”

He shifted uncomfortably, his eyes darting toward the door as if he wanted to escape. “No one important.”

Cassie’s heart sank. She knew he was lying. She had seen the way he smiled at his phone, the way he responded to those messages with a warmth he hadn’t shown her in months. “Kio… hindi ako tanga. Nakita kita makikipag usap sa isang tao. And it’s not just that. You’ve been avoiding me.bakit? May ginawa ba Kong mali?”
