He was on his phone again. The blue glow of the screen lit up his face as he leaned against the kitchen counter, oblivious to her presence in the living room. He hadn’t even said hello when he came in earlier, just a quick nod, and then he was glued to that phone. It felt like he lived in another world now, one where she didn’t exist.
Cassie’s chest tightened as she listened to him speak in a low voice, his tone light and… excited. Whoever was on the other end of that conversation had his full attention, something she had been craving for weeks. She sighed and stood up, her feet carrying her toward him before she could think twice.
“Kio,” she said softly, her voice barely masking the hurt she felt.
He glanced up at her, his face neutral, not the least bit concerned or guilty. “Hey, Cass,” he muttered before looking back at his phone. “What’s up?”
