Azriel sat in the quiet of Rhysand's study, the dim lighting casting soft shadows that seemed to echo the confusion in his mind. He hadn't planned on telling anyone about the strange, undeniable connection he'd felt in the Court of Nightmares, but it had gnawed at him ever since. Now, as he looked at Rhys, Cassian, and Lucien, he felt a strange mix of relief and apprehension. They'd all been through their own trials, faced impossible choices, and maybe, just maybe, they could help him make sense of what he was going through.

Rhys was the first to speak, his voice steady and calm, though his violet eyes held a trace of concern. "Azriel, are you certain about what you felt?"

Azriel nodded, his gaze dropping to his hands. He clenched and unclenched his fists, the tension simmering just below the surface. "I can't explain it, Rhys. It was like... a force I couldn't ignore. It took me by surprise." He looked up, searching his friend's face for understanding. "But I don't want it. I don't want it to mean anything."

Rhys nodded slowly, his expression thoughtful. "The bond is powerful, Az, and it can't be dismissed lightly. But it's also not the only thing that defines your life. You've built something with Skye, something real. If that's what you want, then hold on to it. Just... be careful."

Cassian, sitting on the edge of the desk, leaned forward, his hazel eyes narrowed. "I get that you want to ignore it, Az, but the mating bond is something beyond all of us. Believe me, I've tried to deny fate before. It doesn't exactly work out." He flashed a wry smile, but the seriousness of his words lingered.

Azriel felt the weight of Cassian's words sink into him, and he fought back the pang of doubt they stirred. "I've spent years hoping for a bond, Cass. I won't lie about that. But now? Now, it feels like a curse. It's threatening everything I've built with Skye. I've been with her, committed to her, and I can't abandon that."

Lucien, standing by the window with his arms crossed, regarded Azriel with a mix of sympathy and understanding. He spoke softly, his voice carrying a depth of experience. "You're right, Azriel. I've been in your position. Twice, even. The bond can be both a blessing and a burden. It doesn't make you any less of a person if you choose a path that isn't defined by it. But you have to ask yourself if you can live with that choice."

Azriel took a deep breath, considering Lucien's words. He felt an unexpected pang of gratitude for the red-haired male, who had walked the same path, faced similar dilemmas. Lucien had made choices that went against what was expected, and though he had paid a price, he had carved his own destiny. Azriel wasn't sure he could do the same, but the thought offered a sliver of solace.

Rhys spoke again, his voice calm, measured. "Whatever you decide, Az, remember that we're here for you. This won't be easy, and it won't always make sense, but you have the right to make the choice that feels true to you. If that choice is Skye, then you owe it to yourself—and to her—to be certain."

Cassian clapped a hand on Azriel's shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "Just don't forget that we're here to beat some sense into you if you need it," he said, a half-smile breaking through the serious set of his mouth.

Azriel managed a small smile, though his heart felt heavy. "Thanks, Cass. I might need it."

Lucien stepped forward, his gaze steady and calm. "If you choose to stay with Skye, make sure you're ready for the consequences. The bond will have ways of making itself known, and it won't always be kind."

Azriel nodded, his resolve hardening as he absorbed the words of his friends. They were right, of course. The bond was powerful, a force that had shaped the lives of many around him. But his loyalty to Skye was just as strong. He wouldn't abandon her, not now, not ever. He had chosen her, committed to her, and no bond would change that.

"Thank you," he said, his voice resolute. "I'm going to stay with Skye. I'll find a way to make it work."

Rhys smiled, a look of quiet pride in his gaze. "Then we'll be here to support you, whatever comes next."

Cassian gave a nod, his grin widening. "Good. Just remember to lean on us when things get rough."

Lucien, standing apart from the others, gave him a solemn look. "Remember, Azriel. Sometimes, the hardest battles are the ones we fight within ourselves. But if you've made your choice, then don't let anything sway you."

Azriel's heart lifted a little, the unwavering support of his friends a balm to his frayed nerves. He was certain now, at least for the moment, that he had made the right decision. Skye was worth the struggle, the uncertainty. She was worth every shadow he carried.

As he left Rhysand's study, a sense of calm settled over him, tempered by the lingering weight of what lay ahead. He had resolved to stay with Skye, to weather the storm together, but a small, persistent ache remained, a reminder of the bond that had snapped into place, threading its way into his soul. He knew the path he had chosen would not be easy, but he had made his decision. For now, that was enough.
