Yunhui's eyes shot open in the middle of the night as the sound of bass only seemed to get louder and louder, ruining her peaceful sleep.
"Are they holding a fucking concert in there or something?" She mumbled, grumbling as she shifted under the covers and turned to the side. Her patience was tested even more as she messed up the placement of one of her hair rollers, threatening to mess her hair up for the next day of work.
She thought the bass would get quieter, that the loud instrumental of an electric guitar would fade and that somehow within all the chaos she could hear from next door that she would eventually just fall right back asleep.
"Mom?" A voice called by her bedroom door, making her peer her lids open again to see her door that was always left slightly ajar push open to reveal her son. His emotional stability dinosaur plushie was in one hand while his other hand rubbed his eyes tiredly, an evident frown on his face
Of course her kid was away, his room was directly opposite to the source of where the noise was playing from. She let out a sigh before she beckoned for him to come over to her bed and he followed her orders.
"It's too loud" he said again with a pout and she hummed in agreement
"I know, you can sleep with me tonight. It's not that loud in my room" she said, moving against her mattress as she climbed up onto her bed beside her. She looked at the digital alarm clock against her nightstand.
2am.
She knew her son was a light sleeper, he had pretty sensitive ears that tended to pick up the smallest of noises. Usually it was a blessing, he would be the first to notice if she had left the stove on by accident or if she hadn't switched off the Foreman grill. Today, however, it was a curse that prevented the young child from getting his 10 hours of undisturbed sleep.
"She won't stop singing" Minhyuk mumbled as he cuddled into the thicker covers of his mom's bed and that's when Yunhui's ears finally picked up the off key vocalisation of the little girl once again. She let out a groan knowing that she simply just couldn't handle another night of having horrible sleep or she genuinely could fall asleep at the wheel when she's dropping Minhyuk off at school.
"You know what, I'm going to go talk to the parents and tell them to shut that spoilt brat up" she said and Minhyuk let out a small giggle at her choice of words. She widened her eyes and turned back to him.
"Don't say that at school okay?" She said and he nodded with a cheeky grin
"Okay, I'll be back in two minutes. Try get some sleep, okay?" She said, pulling a cardigan over her pyjamas before slipping into a pair of slippers
"Can you leave the light on?" Minhyuk asked, his arms snuggling the plushie closer to his body as he stared at his mom getting ready to leave the house
"Of course baby" she cooed, wanting to return to her bed in a matter of seconds to curl up next to her kid who was literally her whole world
She turned back and her smile was now replaced with an irritated frown as she trudged to her front door, opening it and leaving it slightly ajar so she could get back in. She looked at the apartment number of the door directly across from hers.
Apartment 4b.
She was in apartment 4a. and the other two apartments were still empty waiting for new habitants. They had moved into the area less than a year ago, after having been on the waitlist for the new apartment complex for over two years. She liked that they had the floor to themselves, but she did get quite worried every now and then regarding the safety of being so alone. However, she would rather that than listen to an Only Look At Me cover by the young girl next door.
