Otis Langston has just settled into his new house with his two kids and his mother. His kids are his motivation to live, he values them more than his own life.

I gather everything in a basket and go up to the terrace. Did I forget to mention? We had a pool on our terrace. There was also a fancy sofa beside the pool and a small table. I change the cushions with the newly washed ones. I hung up some balloons at the poles. I arrange the food that I helped grandma cook. Grandma comes up with more food.
"Wow sweetie. This looks wonderful" she exclaims.
"Thanks thanks. Oh shit. I need to style my hair. They'll be here any moment now!" I say and rush downstairs.
I finish brushing up my hair and twirl around like a princess. I waited too long to wear this dress. I clean my bed, which is basically pushing everything under the bed. As I look at myself one last time in the mirror I hear Ailee's voice.
"HAZEL WE'RE HERE!" she yells.
I go outside and find my three friends ailee, Carly and Ethan talking to my dad. Ethan's gaze shifts towards me and he stares at me in awe. This was the second time he saw me in clothes besides my uniform. Dad caught that look. Shit. Ethan, behave for god's sake.
"You guys have fun, I'll be back" dad says and leaves.
"Hi guys. You're early" I tell them.
"We're punctual" Ailee answers snarkily.
"Hi" I greet Ethan.
"Hey" he smiles back with a hint of a smirk.
"There they go again. They just can't stop-" Carly groans.
"Flirting" Ailee finishes.
"Shut up, let's go upstairs" I say as I try not to blush. Ethan comes close and whispers in my ear.
"You look so damn gorgeous" my face turns bright red.
"I- I'll just go and tell dad about the surprise" I say awfully flushed.
"Okay we'll keep lover boy entertained don't worry" Carly smirks. Ethan rolls his eyes.
I go to Rome's room and find him and dad in a deep conversation. I pst him to come outside for a second.
"What's up?" He asks.
"I planned a surprise for Rome. You have to bring him upstairs" I tell him excitedly.
"A surprise for what?"
"His birthday!! It's and advance surprise. Since next week I'll be totally busy I wanted him to have a good day!" I say proudly.
"That's very sweet of you, go upstairs. I'll be there with him in a minute" he says with a bright smile.
"Okay. Hurry up!" I say and leave.
Once I reach the terrace I notice Carly Ailee and Ethan talking to grandma.
"Hey Hazel we were just talking about your grandma's outfit. She looks STUNNING!! YOU didn't tell us you had such a gorgeous grandma" Carly rambles on and on about my grandma but I was too busy eyeing Ethan as he explored the scenery.
"Oh right! Rome is going to be here. I am yet to hang the banner. Shit! Ailee help me out"
"I'll help her" Ethan says and follows me.
Grandma and ailee smirk as they sit down beside Carly and chat about stuff.

"So....Hazel has something planned. Wanna go and see what it is?" Otis asks.
"Planned what?"
"It's meant to be a surprise" he smirks.
"Oh really.... I'm very excited. Let's go!"
Hazel is in the most creative person I know and I'm actually excited to see what she planned. Was it my birthday today? I don't think so. Is it Otis birthday? Shit! Once we reach the terrace, Otis just stands awkwardly without opening the door.
"Uh, I'm supposed to blindfold you but I don't have anything right now so I'll just cover your eyes with my hands ok? Don't peek unless you want Hazel to go shop for rat poison" he says, I barf at him thinking of ways Hazel could kill him if he ruined this surprise.
"Yeah ok I'll co-operate although I would love to see that rat poison" I laugh.
He rotates me towards the door and brings his hands over my eyes. I could feel the warmth spreading over me as I try to stay calm. Act fool Rome.
He opens the door, and steps back letting me open my eyes. I stare in awe as I smile widely looking at everything that they prepared. For me. God, I'm blessed.
There were banners, lots and lots of food. They were all dressed up, holding some uncanny things from which paper popped out. I smile even wider as they all approach me and suffocate me into a hug.
"Happy birthday Rome!" They all wish me.
"And before you go nuts, we know it's not your birthday but since Hazel will be busy next week she planned an early surprise" Otis explains.
This was a lot more than a surprise. This was a blast.
I received a lot of gifts especially from Hazel. I received a watch from Otis which was really really cool. I taste every kind of food my eyes fell on and honestly there was no bad food there. Then it was time to dance. Hazel begins the music as she pulls ailee onto the dance floor. I notice Ethan smiling brightly as they goofed around.
"Come on! Start dancing!" Hazel urges.
Feeling bold I drag Otis and join them. He stumbles a bit but doesn't comment and simply dances. But when a slow song comes up he was ready to run away.
"Not so fast" I pull him back, placing his hands on my waist as I place mine on his shoulders. He turns bright red.
"I don't know how to dance" he comments.
"Neither do I, just have fun" I whisper smiling.
That's what we do. Have fun. I drag Lucy as well, as I swirl her around in her gorgeous dress. Carly's random comments made everyone snort and laugh our lungs out. Ethan was ecstatic when ailee pushed him and Hazel to dance together. They dance like professionals as they become the center of attention.
"Stop staring idiots!" Hazel blushes.
We all cheer teasing them. Nothing fazes Ethan as he continues staring at her with a sweet smile.
Once everyone's tired, we slump down on the couch with comfortable groans.
"That was the best day of my life" I exclaim.
"It's not over yet! It's time for a very competitive board game which could potentially ruin relationships. Monopoly! Let's go!" Hazel jumps in excitement.
"I'll go grab it, relax" Ethan says as he chuckles and leaves downstairs.
"You guys are made for each other" ailee says. Otis scoffs. That's the only thing he's been doing as we all tease them.
"Chill out" I tell him. He simply rolls his eyes.
Once Ethan's back with the game, everyone's surrounding the board placed on the table. And the war begins.
