Winter was frantically trying to prepare the meal for his fortnightly date night with his wife, Autumn. Tonight's date was different, however. The couple had been together for a year, so this date needed to be perfect. The couple, since they started dating, agreed that every two weeks they would have a date night, every two months they would have a weekend getaway and every two years, they would take a week-long vacation. The couple took it in turns to plan the date night, they just had to tell each other a time to be ready for.
This evening, in particular, Winter had planned a candle-lit dinner and then had planned to surprise her with a piano version of her favourite song. He had been running around the kitchen for the last hour, making sure the seasoning of the lasagna was perfect before placing it into the oven to go and get changed. He changed into his black suit before spraying Autumn's favourite cologne. Returning downstairs, he grabbed the tall black candles and lighter before placing them on their dining room table and lighting them. He grabbed the non-alcoholic red wine from the fridge before putting it in the ice bucket on the floor. "My sweet, can I come down yet?" Autumn called from down the stairs. Winter finished laying out the salad on the plate, placing it on the table before walking to the bottom of the stairs, and seeing his wife standing there. His eyes widened in awe.
She was wearing a long, slim-fitting black lace dress, her long red hair flowing in waves over her shoulders. Her dress fell just above her knees as her heels gave her just enough height to be taller than her husband. She began slowly walking down the stairs, even with her glasses on, her eyeshadow shimmered in the light. As she reached her husband, she wrapped her arms around his neck, "My darling you look absolutely radiant tonight," Winter smiled, placing his arms around her waist before placing a gentle kiss on her lips. "Thank you, my sweet."
As Autumn sat down at the table, Winter ran frantically into the kitchen, pulling out the lasagna and taking it into the dining room. "My sweet, this looks amazing." Her smile, which very rarely made an appearance unless it was around her husband, lit up the room, a warmth radiating from her. A smile that instantly put Winter at ease, as her husband served her a portion of the lasagna. He took his seat opposite her, looking at his wife in admiration. The butterflies returned from when they first met, fluttering around his stomach, his heart beating out of his chest as he took a sip of his drink. Autumn's eyes softened as they fell on him, "are you okay, My Sweet?" Her voice was always soft around her husband, it always would be, especially after last Halloween. "Oh yes, My Love," he smiled softly, "I just hope you like it, and that you have a great evening with what I have planned for you."
As the two finished their food, they talked about everything they had achieved this past year. From telling everyone they were together, to their wedding. From the heartbreaking things to the exciting things. "My Sweet, that was amazing," Autumn smiled, "That might be my favourite thing you've ever cooked me" Winter smiled softly, walking over to her, taking her by the hand and helping her up. He placed a hand on her small bump, "are you ready for the surprise?" He asked, leaning in and whispering in her ear, kissing her softly on the neck before leading her into the lounge area where the piano sat.
As he took his seat at the piano, he took a deep breath before positioning his fingers on the keys, beginning to play their wedding song, Mary On A Cross. He had been practising the song for a couple of months now, so he'd put himself under a lot of pressure. He closed his eyes and played as he felt his wife put a hand on his shoulder, beginning to sing the lyrics as he played. Their cat, Caddie, sitting on top of the piano, purring. As the song ended, Winter looked up at his wife, "I love you, My Love," he whispered, standing up, wrapping an arm around her as he lifted her up. She wrapped her legs around his waist as their lips met, "I love you, My Sweet... it's crazy to think next year, we will have another person to celebrate with..." Winter smiled, placing a hand on Autumn's lower back,
"We will soon be a family consisting of Mr and Mrs Fortune-Knight and Baby Fortune-Knight." Winter chuckled. "I cannot wait to grow our family with you, My Love,"
"Neither can I, My love"
