Chapter 727 - Role Swap

The three left the ultrasound room and returned to Lisa's private room together. Haruto finally showed the couple Jennie's positive pregnancy test result.

"I guess your appointment with me on the weekend is no longer needed," Haruto said.

Jennie was too absorbed reading every word of her test result to respond, so Lisa thanked his second brother on behalf of them.

"Second Brother, we owe you one," he said. "I know that your schedule is packed with surgeries but you still made time for us."

"You're welcome, Third Brother. Don't worry about it. We're family. But from here on, it's best for an OB-GYN to start looking after Ruby now that we've confirmed that she's indeed pregnant. I'm a surgeon so prenatal care is not my specialty."

Lisa nodded. "I understand. We'll do that."

"If you're not satisfied with Ruby's current OB-GYN given that you haven't seen that doctor and came to me instead ever since you started suspecting that she might be pregnant, I can refer you to someone else who I'll guarantee will be very discreet."

Jennie replied before Lisa could do so. "Yes, let's do that. Thank you, Second Brother."

Since he was already there, Haruto gave Jennie a general check-up. She suddenly remembered something and brought it up with a concerned expression.

"I sensed that Lisa had been suspecting that I've been pregnant all along, but the idea was completely erased from my mind because I thought I menstruated last week. Yes, it was very light but I still bled. It didn't concern me that time because my periods have been highly irregular since I woke up from my one-year coma. Now that I know I'm pregnant, I'm worried that I bled like that."

Haruto wrote on Jennie' file. His calm demeanour didn't change as he reassured her. "Your baby twins look healthy when we checked them via ultrasound earlier. There's no need to worry, Ruby. You and your babies are fine. Some women may experience light bleeding during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, and it's usually not something to be too concerned about. But the next time it happens, have your OB-GYN check to ensure that you and your babies are safe."

Both Jennie and Lisa nodded. They listened like attentive students when Haruto began the mandatory doctor's lecture on the dos and don'ts during pregnancy. This was especially true for Lisa. He even grabbed a hospital-provided notepad and pen on the bedside table to take notes. With how he was acting and asking all kinds of questions, it was as if he was the one who was pregnant and not Jennie.

Haruto had his professional doctor's expression yet his eyes revealed his amusement at how his third brother was acting. He turned to Jennie. "How about you, Ruby? Do you have any questions that you want to ask?"

She thought for a moment. "Is it safe to have sex during pregnancy?"

Lisa froze but quickly turned to face Haruto again and leaned forward on his seat towards him. It was obvious that he also wanted to know.

Haruto had to take a few seconds to control his expression. Fortunately, his professionalism as a doctor kicked in and he was able to prevent himself from snickering. This couple amused him to no end.

First, his third brother was acting like he was the one who was pregnant with all his fussy questions. These questions were typically asked by the woman. Not always, but most of the time. And then when Jennie finally decided to open her mouth, she asked the one question that a man would usually ask.

Their interesting role swap was tempting Haruto to tease the couple, but he eventually decided against it. He could sense the couple's nervousness, and in Jennie's case, he could feel genuine terror. He didn't know exactly why—there could be a million reasons—but neither did he want to know. Yes, they were basically family but it was none of his business. And he didn't want to pry. He was certain that the couple could resolve their own issues by themselves without needing other people's interference.

When he was sure that he wouldn't burst out laughing, Haruto finally answered Jennie's question. "You have a tendency to faint, Ruby, so keep that in mind and be extra careful. But overall, you're quite healthy and fit, not to mention you're still young and have a lot of energy. So yes, it's safe to have sex while you're pregnant."

Both Jennie and Lisa looked relieved which only made Haruto more amused.

"Thank goodness," Jennie said. "I'll probably go crazy if you told us that we can't have sex. Now that I think about it, I noticed that my sex drive has increased recently. I find myself craving for Lisa in the oddest of times. It's terribly distracting especially when I'm working."

Lisa cleared his throat and shifted on his seat.

"That's normal. Some women experience either a decrease or an increase in their libido during pregnancy. It looks like you're one of those whose libido spikes up." On the outside, Haruto maintained his professional yet casual tone, but on the inside, he was enjoying his third brother's discomfort at his pregnant fiancée's straightforwardness. But regardless of his close relationship to the couple, at the end of the day, he was still a doctor and one who was always serious at doing his job well. Thus, he needed to be thorough like always in advising his patients. And in this case, his patient was Jennie.

"I see no reason of stopping your sex life, but you also must not forget that you're pregnant now, Ruby. You and Third Brother need to be careful. Just do it normally. Don't be too rough."

Lisa opened his mouth but Jennie beat him to it. She looked so serious when she asked, "Can you please be more specific on what you mean by 'too rough'?"
