The mission had gone wrong, catastrophically wrong.
The Titans had been deployed to neutralize a threat in the heart of Jump City—a high-stakes situation involving a rogue meta-human with powers they barely understood. But things hadn't gone according to plan. Communication had broken down, and Damian, as usual, had charged in ahead, believing he could handle it himself. His overwhelming need to prove he was capable—better than the rest of them—was pushing him further toward recklessness.
Now, with the battle raging around them, the Teen Titans found themselves not only fighting an increasingly volatile enemy but also struggling with the tension within their own team.
Damian's voice cut through the chaos like a knife. "If any of you actually knew how to fight, we wouldn't be in this mess!" His green eyes blazed with fury as he deflected a burst of energy from their opponent. The insult wasn't new, but this time, it was sharper, more venomous, like he was looking for a fight.
"Back off, Damian!" Kory shouted, her hands glowing with starbolts. "We're doing the best we can!"
"The best isn't good enough," Damian growled, knocking out a henchman with a swift strike. He whirled around, his cape flaring. "It's never good enough."
Beast Boy, mid-transformation into a tiger, paused for a split second to shoot a glance at Damian. "Dude, what's your problem? We're supposed to be a team!"
"A team?" Damian's laugh was cold, bitter. "You're all liabilities! Every mission, I'm cleaning up after you. If I wasn't here, you'd all be dead!"
The words hit like a slap. Gar flinched, reverting back to his human form, eyes wide with hurt. "That's not true, man."
Raven, levitating in the air, her hands glowing with dark magic, kept her eyes on the enemy but couldn't hold back any longer. "Enough, Damian! We're trying to help, but you're pushing us away."
"I don't need your help," Damian spat, his voice rising above the sound of the battle. "I've never needed anyone's help."
The meta-human launched another wave of energy, and Damian, driven by anger more than strategy, charged headfirst into the blast. The force knocked him to the ground, his ears ringing, but he pushed himself up, refusing to show weakness.
"Damian, fall back!" Dick's voice crackled through the communicator, but Damian ripped it out of his ear and crushed it underfoot.
His teammates were shouting at him, their voices blending into the background noise. He could hear them—could hear their frustration, their anger—but it didn't matter. They didn't matter. None of them understood. None of them ever did.
The fight was over. The enemy had been subdued, but the real battle was just beginning.
They regrouped in the safe house on the outskirts of the city, everyone bruised and exhausted, tension hanging heavy in the air. Damian stood off to the side, his jaw clenched, refusing to meet anyone's eyes.
The silence stretched painfully until Kory broke it. "Damian, what the hell was that?"
He didn't answer, his posture rigid, his face a mask of anger.
"We could've been seriously hurt," Gar added, still nursing a bruise on his arm. "You can't just go off like that!"
"I don't care," Damian snapped, his voice low but dangerous.
Raven narrowed her eyes, her arms crossed over her chest. "We're a team. You can't just keep pushing us away."
Damian's fists clenched at his sides, and when he spoke, his voice was louder, harsher than any of them had ever heard. "I never asked to be part of this team! You're all dead weight. Every mission, it's the same—your incompetence dragging me down."
