Raindrops fell in sheets, turning the streets of the small town into a blurred watercolor of gray. Rei Tsuki pulled her scarf tighter around her neck, her breath fogging in the chilly afternoon air. She hadn't expected the weather to turn so quickly—just her luck to leave her umbrella at home.
With a quick glance around, she spotted a narrow awning by a closed convenience store. It wasn't much, but it was better than getting soaked. Hugging her bag close, she made a dash across the street, the cold rain biting through her clothes. As she reached the awning of a closed store, she let out a soft sigh of relief, leaning against the wall.
And then she noticed him.
Ryota Saito was already there, standing with his arms crossed, tapping his foot impatiently. His soaked hair stuck to his forehead, and his school jacket was drenched. He didn't bother to acknowledge her at first, staring out at the rain like it had personally wronged him.
Rei froze, keeping her distance. She knew who he was, everyone did. Ryota Saito, the infamous delinquent who couldn't seem to stay out of trouble. Fights, detentions, always barking at someone about something. And here he was, glaring at the rain like he was ready to pick a fight with it too.
She considered just going somewhere else for shelter, unfortunately, all the other awnings of other houses or stores were too narrow to keep her from the rain, well, as long as she stayed quiet she should be alright and avoid a conversation...
He noticed her then, and his frown deepened.
—"What? You lost or something?" He said with a sharp tone, as if her mere presence was an inconvenience.
Rei shook her head quickly, stepping to the edge of the shelter to avoid standing too close to him. The rain splashed at her feet, cold and relentless.
—"No, but I can't get home with this rain."
— "Tch." Ryota clicked his tongue, a frown forming on his face —"You're gonna get soaked standing like that. Whatever, do what you want."
The silence between them was thick with awkwardness, the only sound being the relentless downpour. Rei suddenly shivered and cursed herself, the day was so sunny today she thought there was no reason to bring an extra jacket, should've taken humidity into consideration
Ryota glanced at her, sighing and rolling his eyes dramatically
—"You're freezing, aren't you?" His voice wasn't concerned, more irritated, like her being cold was somehow her fault. He peeled off his soaking jacket and tossed it at her without warning. —"Here, don't say I never did anything for you."
The jacket hit her with a wet thud, and Rei blinked, unsure of how to respond. It was drenched and smelled faintly of cigarettes, but it was warm—warmer than standing there freezing, at least. She wrapped it around her shoulders awkwardly, it was kinda small on her actually.
—"Thanks..."
—"Yeah, yeah." Ryota waved her off, leaning back against the metal post. "You owe me one though."
Rei looked down, clutching the jacket tighter. She wasn't sure what she had expected, but this boy was even more difficult than she had imagined. Still, beneath the gruffness, there was something—maybe the smallest hint of decency. Or maybe he was just too stubborn to admit otherwise.
The rain continued to pour, and they stood together in silence.

Yo! Writer here, uh, as one of the tag says I am definetly NOT experienced at writing, I'm more of a poetry person, sometimes I write fairytales and whatnot, you could say this is my first actual long story —Or relatively long, I doubt I'll write much—, I mean, no one's gonna read this so might as well let it suck right?
