Ryota wasn't expecting to see her there, standing in the aisle of the convenience store with her hands full of instant coffee packets and a loaf of bread.
For a moment, he just blinked, caught off guard. Rei Tsuki, Miss Perfect, in an everyday setting? Something about it threw him completely off balance. She looked the same, sure—neatly dressed, composed—but seeing her outside of her uniform was like seeing a fish out of water.
—"What, even you run errands?" Ryota couldn't help but tease as he stepped closer.
Rei turned, her usual calm expression meeting his. —"What do you think I do? Have people do it for me?"
—"Well, yeah, kinda," Ryota said with a grin.
Rei rolled her eyes, but her response was light. —"Not everyone is as lazy as you."
—"I'm not lazy, just... efficient."
Obviously not taking his words seriously, she kept looking through the aisle. It felt almost off, seeing her in a jacket and jeans instead of a shirt and a long skirt.
There was something softer in her demeanor. No formalities, no tutoring session, no awkwardness—just two people in a store going grocery shopping
—"Want me to carry that for you?" Ryota offered suddenly, realizing she was juggling a few things.
Rei hesitated, and for a moment, it seemed like she might refuse. But then, with the smallest nod, she handed over the bread.
Ryota took it without a word, but inside, something shifted. It was a tiny moment, almost too small to notice. But it was enough to make him wonder if maybe, just maybe, she didn't hate him that much.
