The morning of the festival dawned bright and cheerful, the streets of Valeria bursting with color and energy. Bright banners fluttered in the breeze, and the aroma of street food filled the air, drawing crowds eager to celebrate. But amid the festive atmosphere, Captain Nova was a storm cloud, a bundle of nerves masked by a forced smile.
“Joe, relax,” Timmy said, nudging him as they walked through the bustling street. “You’re starting to freak me out.”
Nova glanced at the cheerful festival-goers around them, their laughter ringing like ominous bells in his ears. “How can I relax when Viper is planning something huge? There’s no way to know where he’s hiding that bomb.”
Timmy scanned the crowd, adjusting his cape as they moved. “We’ll find a way. We’ve faced worse than this, right? Remember that time with the giant robot?”
“Yeah, but this time it’s civilians we need to protect,” Nova replied, his tone grave. “And if Viper wants to make a statement, he won’t hold back.”
“Okay, okay, but first, let’s split up and see if we can find any of Viper’s goons lurking around,” Timmy suggested. “We’ll meet back here in an hour.”
Nova hesitated. “You sure it’s safe?”
Timmy grinned. “When have we ever played it safe? Just keep your communicator on. If anything happens, call me.”
“Alright,” Nova said reluctantly, glancing around one last time before they separated. “Be careful, Timmy.”
As Timmy disappeared into the crowd, Nova took a deep breath, steeling himself for the search. He navigated through the throngs of festival-goers, feeling like a wolf in sheep's clothing. Everyone was too caught up in the festivities to notice the danger lurking just beneath the surface.
He checked all the usual spots—the food stalls, the games, even the dunk tank—looking for anyone who looked suspicious. Every time he spotted a group of rough-looking individuals, his heart raced, only to calm when they turned out to be just festival-goers in disguise.
Just as he was about to lose hope, he spotted a familiar face in the crowd: one of the Iron Serpents he had encountered at the diner last night. He slipped into an alleyway to get a better look, adrenaline coursing through him.
“Where’s Viper?” he demanded as he approached the thug. “I know you’re up to something.”
The thug, caught off guard, stumbled back. “I—I don’t know what you’re talking about!”
“Cut the act!” Nova growled, stepping closer. “I know you’re here for the festival, but I also know Viper’s plan.”
At that moment, the thug's bravado crumbled, and he blurted out, “Okay, okay! He’s at the old factory by the river. He’s set to detonate the bomb during the fireworks show!”
“Thanks!” Nova said, grabbing the thug’s arm and pulling him closer. “But I need you to promise me something. If you care about anyone in this city, you’ll tell them to evacuate the festival now. It’s not safe.”
The thug nodded quickly, fear flickering in his eyes. “I swear!”
With that, Nova took off toward the river, his heart pounding with urgency. The old factory was a crumbling structure that loomed ominously against the backdrop of the festive sky. As he approached, he could see the faint outline of shadows moving inside.
He could hear muffled voices through the walls—Viper and his crew were already at work. Nova steeled himself for what lay ahead.
Just as he was about to make his move, a familiar voice crackled in his ear. “Joe, are you there?” It was Timmy.
“I’m here! I think I found where they’re hiding the bomb!” Nova said, barely able to contain his excitement. “But I need you to stay safe. I’m going in.”
“Wait! I just heard from a few people at the festival,” Timmy said, urgency lacing his voice. “They said something about fireworks starting soon. You have to hurry!”
“Understood. I’ll stop them,” Nova replied, determination flooding his veins.
He moved stealthily toward the entrance, peering through the cracked windows. Inside, he could see Viper pacing back and forth, a sinister grin plastered on his face as he monitored a large device that glowed ominously.
“Tonight, Valeria will learn the consequences of crossing the Iron Serpents!” Viper shouted, his voice dripping with malice.
Nova clenched his fists. He had to act quickly. Gathering his courage, he burst through the doors, his powers surging to life.
“Not if I can help it!” he shouted, drawing the attention of Viper and his henchmen.
“Nova!” Viper sneered, “You’re too late! The countdown has already begun!”
“I won’t let you destroy this city!” Nova retorted, ready to spring into action.
As Viper’s henchmen moved to intercept him, Nova unleashed a wave of energy, sending them sprawling backward. He focused all his power on the device, hoping to disable it before it was too late.
But just as he reached for the bomb, Viper stepped in front of him, a manic gleam in his eyes. “You think you can stop me? You’re just a boy playing hero!”
“You’re right about one thing,” Nova said, his heart racing. “But I’m not just any boy. I’m Captain Nova!”
The two clashed in a fierce battle, energy crackling around them as they exchanged blows. The stakes had never been higher, and Nova knew he had to win—there were lives at stake.
