The ear ringing sound of rockets firing filled the silence of the nearly empty shuttle. The floor of the ship shook as the engine whirred, ready for take-off. A mechanical, tube like tentacle wrapped itself around a lever, shifting gears, putting the ship in motion. The strange limb belonged to none other than Vontra, a robot made up of five 'tentacles' which were large black wires connected to her main body; her body being a floating mechanical head with a blue camera-eye and a smaller red eye above it. It only took a few button presses from the tentacle-ish robot to put the vehicle on autopilot, enabling the robot to make its way into the ship's holding room.
There in the holding room was another robot, a taller one— beaten up and damaged. Scratch marks covered the taller machine's white and silver detailed body, a soft coat of grassy moss spreading from her torso to her head. Her limb connectors were a similar material to the tentacles of the smaller robot, ending with a white hand on each side. She sat there, strapped to a seat, similar to an electric chair, silently waiting for the tentacle robot to say something.
The smaller machine clapped two of its 'hands' together, floating closer to the larger robot. "Well, Rozzum 7134," Vontra began, already inching closer to the chair, "you really were a challenge to catch."
Roz said nothing, watching as the levitating machine got closer. Vontra took this as a sign to continue. She spoke again, her tone more energetic than it was before. "I mean, I didn't even get you myself!" The tentacle robot let out a forced laugh, one of her pincers grabbing Roz's shoulder in what seemed like a wanna-be playful way. "You had to give yourself up to save your 'oh-so-precious island'."
Again, silence. Vontra moved her head in front of Rozzum's, her blue eye narrowing. "Are you listening to me?" She tried to keep her cheery tone, but there was a hint of annoyance present.
Roz's eyes shifted slightly, meeting the cold, harsh gaze of the opposing robot. "I did what I had to do," Rozzum stated simply, yet somehow with more emotion than Vontra could ever have.
"I see," Vontra hummed, moving in front of the taller robot. "Well, it was good choice! Now Universal Dynamics won't have to waste recourses destroying your 'home'!" She clapped her pincers together, her tone shifting as if she were smiling.
Ignoring Vontra's ignorant remark, Rozzum decided to ask, "Can you let me out of this contraption?" Roz's eyes looked towards the chair she was sitting in while her hands awkwardly gestured to the straps that were pinning her limbs down.
"I don't know," Vontra sighed with a friendly attitude. "I still have to figure out a way to erase your memories."
"Did you not already wipe my memories?" A small twinge of panic began to rise in Roz. She was worried that if her memories got wiped again, it would be permanent.
Vontra floated behind the imprisoned robot, two of her limbs wrapping around Roz's body. "Well, yes," she began, her pincers tapping on Roz's metal frame, "but you still remember it all, don't you?"
"W-well, I—" Vontra put a pincer to where the larger robot's mouth would be, letting out a shhh.
"I know you remember. We just have to fix that, and you, then you'll be perfect again," one of the smaller robot's limbs caressed Rozzum's cheek before she moved back in front of her. "It won't hurt... that bad."
All Roz could do was close her eyes as Vontra went through her system, attempting to reset and harvest any memories or emotions Rozzum might have gained. Judging by the slight grunts of frustration, it wasn't an easy task.
Once complete, Vontra took a step back, reaching to power Rozzum back on. Her eyes batted open, and her tone was flat and distant when Roz said, "Hello! I am Rozzum unit 7134, but you may call me Roz."
Vontra's eye narrowed as she scanned the larger, beaten up robot. She got suspiciously close before asking, "You still remember, don't you, Rozzum?"
An awkward moment of silence passed before Roz hesitantly answered, "Yes."
The tentacle robot let out an elongated sigh, putting her pincer on Roz's shoulder once again, yet still holding that energetic voice. "Well, then. I suppose I'll leave it be for now. At least until I figure out a way to really erase your memories," Rozzum just gave her a look of uncertainty. "Your memories are safe... for now, Rozzum."
The look of uncertainty remained, but there was a small glimmer of hope that was born in Roz. The wired limbs from the smaller robot unlocked the pieces of metal binding Roz to the chair, but Vontra pushed the larger robot down before she could even attempt to stand.
"This doesn't mean I'm going easy on you, understand, Rozzum unit 7134?" Vontra hummed in her usual friendly demeanor.
"Yes, I understand," Roz replied, yet she had a slight feeling that it was exactly what it meant.
