The two made their way up to a highly secured metal door. Using one of her pincers, Vontra quickly input the code, and the metal door slid open with a shhfft. The smaller robot hovered inside, leaving the larger one standing at the doorway, unsure if she should enter.
Inside was the textbook definition of 'neat'. White surfaces, objects organized in sections, not a single thing out of place. Computers and hardware lined the farthest wall, leaving the other three open for tables full of resources needed for whatever an engineer could think of. In the middle lie a workbench, big enough to fit an elephant if you tried hard enough.
Vontra made her way over to the work bench, looking behind her to lock eyes with Roz. "Come here, Rozzum," she said, almost like a demand as she tapped the surface of the table with her pincers.
Rozzum walked into the room, leaving behind scuff marks with each step. The smaller bot gestured to the mess the larger one was making, and Roz glanced behind her. "Oh, oh my," the taller bot spoke, lifting one of her mechanical feet off of the floor to analyze the dirt residue on it.
The smaller bot lifted one of her tentacles up to her head, almost as if she were face-palming. She let out a sigh, and said in the friendliest voice she could muster up, "It's alright, Rozzum unit 7134. We'll get you cleaned and fixed before we begin."
Before the mossy bot could answer, Vontra clapped two of her pincers together, summoning mechanical arms from the ceiling. The arms grabbed Rozzum, locking her in place as power tools and cleaning solutions were used on her. The poor mossy bot couldn't even speak out in protest, because as soon as she knew it, it was already over.
"Good as new!" Vontra chimed as she circled the taller bot. Roz was no longer mossy, scratched and beaten up; she was quite the opposite. The bot was now glimmering under the lights of the room, her metal body reflective and spotless. It was as if Rozzum was just made.
The taller bot examined herself, a bit at a loss of words. "Wow," was all she could say as she looked in a nearby mirror.
"Rozzum," the tentacle bot stated, causing the now clean robot to turn her attention to Vontra. "Let's get to work, shall we?"
"Yes, sorry," Roz nodded, walking over to the smaller robot. She glanced behind herself one more time, almost as if she missed the trail of dirt. There was now no longer any external reminder of the island, every trace of nature washed away. Even her wooden prosthetic was gone, replaced with her missing metal part. Only her memories held the beauty of the island, but would she even remember them in a month's time? The taller bot brushed the odd feeling aside, "Where should we begin?"
Vontra grabbed a pen and clipboard with her tentacles, "How did you learn to... empathize with the animals on the island?" She clicked the pen, staring intently at Rozzum as she waited for a detailed answer.
"I found a purpose."
"And what purpose was that, Rozzum?" Vontra inched closer, clicking her pen a few more times.
"To love," the taller bot responded simply.
