"Game Over"
— ♡ —
You booted up the stream and began greeting the fans trickling in. It was nine in the evening: you just ate a very nutritious dinner consisting of dollar store noodles, and now you were refreshed enough to start your nightly stream.
You were relatively new to this whole streaming thing, but what mattered most to you was just playing the game. Your chosen game was like any other first-person shooter, and called 'Watch Your Six'. The campaign followed a disgraced soldier who took on bodyguard roles for various high members of society, while trying to get revenge on the person who framed them. You preferred playing multiplayer mode since you just shot your opponent down and boom, got easy wins.
And not to toot your own horn, but you were probably on the global top ten list of best players out there. So despite not having a face-cam nor microphone, several hundreds watched your streams purely for your clips. Some people preferred the lack of commentary as they could focus on your skill instead.
While waiting in the queue, your eyes fell on the chat. You had received a fair few donations so far - it was enough to support you alongside some freelance work - and typed a 'thanks!' in your game chat.
Finally, you got matched up and placed in a lobby with nine other people. The five-vs-five game-mode was your favourite.
It didn't take long for you and your team to completely decimate your opponents, with you carrying your team like usual. The chat flooded with compliments and reactions, but every single one of them noted you down with the wrong pronoun.
Women being good at videogames seemed to be mutually exclusive for them.
You sighed and continued to play for a few more hours. Around twenty minutes before ending the stream, someone donated you $500. Your eyes bulged out of their sockets as you typed a quick message to thank them. For a donation that large, there was an AI-generated voice that read their donation message out loud.
'Take this bro n for the love of God, plz get urself a decent cam n mic.' It earned a chuckle out of you. Many other fans agreed with this user and you debated in your head if it was finally time to start speaking.
Now, you already had a face-cam and microphone, but you didn't use it for your gaming account. No, you already exposed your face on another account, where you just did some mindless chatting with your chat and sometimes accepted donations. But you were determined to not let the two accounts mix.
There was no amount of money that was going to make you expose your face on this gaming account, but you were open to the idea of having a microphone. For a while, you had seen other people use voice filters and decided it was the perfect time to test it out for yourself.
For the next stream, you booted it up like usual and waited for about a few hundred people to join. You wanted to spook your viewers and once the first donation had been made, you turned your mic on.
"Thanks man," you spoke. Except on the other end, your viewers heard a voice that sounded like a guy who needed cough medicine real bad.
Instantly, your chat was spammed with their live reactions to your voice.
'No fair. he's goated AND got a deep voice?'
'fellas, is it gay to like a man's voice?'
'bro leave some women for the rest of us'
'pack it up corpse husband.'
