chapter eight; not so alone
━━━━

BEING ALONE WAS NOTHING NEW to katsuki bakugou, he spent most of his life alone, both by his own choice and by force. he couldn't help it though, it was how he was raised, and katsuki will be damned before he went against what his family expected from him.

or at least, he always thought so. when he was four, katsuki had made his first friend. he was a real shy kid who cried at anything and everything. it irritated him at first, especially when it was his first time meeting the boy, his mother had a friend over for lunch and the woman brought her son with her, izuku she called him.

when katsuki's mother called him over to introduce him, the boy stayed hidden behind his mother's legs, looking at katsuki nervously as his eyes filled to the brim with tears, ready to drop at any given moment. at that moment katsuki decided that the boy wasn't worth his time and he was okay being alone, and with that, he went back to his bedroom, not sparing izuku a second glance.

though, a brief moment later there was a soft knock on his door, and when he went to open it, prepared to shout at his mother for disturbing him, the same boy with the unruly hair and tear filled eyes stood in front of him, twiddling his thumbs as he mumbled something katsuki couldn't hear.

katsuki decided he would give him the benefit of the doubt, opening his room door wider to invite him in, only if he liked all might better than endeavour though, and when izuku confirmed this with a wide grin, he decided he was alright with having izuku as a friend

━━━━⊱⋆⊰━━━━

as they grew older, their friendship grew closer. yes, katsuki had other friends at the school he and izuku went to, as did izuku, but he admittedly liked izuku more than the boys who followed him around and praised him always.

he and izuku played together everyday after school at katsuki's house, and when it was time for him to go home they were hard to separate, eventually, when their mothers grew tired of their nightly tantrums, they were allowed to have sleepovers. and this continued until they begun middle school.

when they started aldera junior high, katsuki grew more popular, not only for his looks, but for his grades and athletic abilities as well. he was no blind boy, he knew he was gaining popularity at school, and he knew he was pushing his first friend away, and neither was izuku, he knew their friendship was starting to die, and katsuki was doing nothing to save it, despite all izuku's attempts, so he wouldn't either.

it was only when izuku heard katsuki tell one of his friends that he didn't know who izuku was, or as the blonde in question phrased it; "that weirdo? i don't know him and who would want to?", he decided that he was okay with their friendship dying, and so, it did.

when they graduated from the rundown school, katsuki's friends had left him, or rather, he pushed them away, and he was alone again. and he was happy to be alone, he didn't mind it. if anything, he preferred it.

━━━━⊱⋆⊰━━━━

katsuki's high school life was similar to his middle school one, when he first joined he quickly grew popular, and just like in middle school katsuki didn't mind for the people surrounding him. in fact, he quite liked getting praised everywhere he went.

he couldn't help it though, from the moment he was born, he was being praised, from the photo shoots he did for his parent's fashion business to always scoring the best in all his classes. he was always getting praised, by his teachers and his peers.

he knew they weren't being sincere though, his classmates were scared of him because of his fuse, or the lack thereof, and his teachers were scared of his temper tantrums. but once again, he couldn't help it. when he was younger he was told that you have to demand things to get your way in life, and that's what katsuki did.

this didn't last long though, because high school was different and it was filled with different people, and those people quickly knocked katsuki off the pedestal he was put on all his life, and though he wouldn't admit it out loud, he knew he needed it, and he was somewhat grateful for it.

this didn't last long though, because when katsuki was 17 and in his second last year of high school he got his first girlfriend, his first proper girlfriend, she wasn't like the rest of the girls katsuki had experienced with. and even though his group of friends kept him grounded, she put him on the highest pedestal he's ever been on, and he didn't wanna come down from it.

and he didn't. that is, until two years later when they were off to university and completely fed up with each other and each other's bullshit. he was knocked off that pedestal, and he was once again alone.

━━━━⊱⋆⊰━━━━

now, katsuki was 19 years old and nearly done with his first semester of university. he was in a strange city miles away from his hometown and his friends, and he was alone.

and he could now admit that he didn't like being alone, he knew it when he first moved into his apartment a week before orientation started. katsuki didn't like it though, yes, it was his house, but it wasn't his home. it felt too big for him, hell the whole building felt too big for him.

that is, until he met you, a girl he spoke to in a random grocery store a few blocks away from his building, and when he found out that same girl lived in the same building as him, katsuki became hopeful, not that he would tell you or anyone else that.

and when you both had discovered you lived next door to each other and did in fact go to the same school, he let his hope grow the littlest bit. he was grateful to see someone familiar, even if all the two of you would do was share a wave in the hallways, it made him feel slightly better and not so alone.

but, when you approached him and invited him over, and as your friendship grew. katsuki realised two things; he had found comfort in you, and he hoped you could find comfort in him, and that if the only thing the two of you could be was friends, he'll be grateful for that.

and for the fact that he wasn't alone anymore
