CHAPTER 1, the crew

The warm air caressed Eleanor's rosy cheeks as the sultry summer night settled in. Seabirds chirped overhead, swooping down to scavenge for scraps left behind by tourists and locals on Figure Eight. Lying on the ground of the construction site, Eleanor basked in the heat, her bikini glistening in the fading light.

Turning her head, she spotted John B teetering dangerously on the edge of the roof, balancing on one foot while clutching a beer. "That's what, a three-story fall to the deck?" called out pope, staring up at the boy. "I give you about a one-in-three chance of survival."

"Hm." John B licked his finger and checked the wind, a look of deep concentration on his face. "Should I do it?". He mockingly asked.

"Absolutely," Ellie smirked, squinting her eyes as they watered from the setting sun.

"Yeah, jump. I'll shoot you on the way down." Pope gestured with a drill tool, pretending it was a weapon.

"You'll shoot me?" John B laughed, raising his eyebrows

"Yep." He shot back.

John B raised his hand in retaliation pretending to shoot pope back. "Pow".

Eleanor chuckled, shaking her head at the chaos. "You guys are a mess. If you're not careful, one of you will end up in the ER."

"Come on, Ellie," John B said, smirking as he leaned further over the edge. "Where's your sense of adventure?"

"Right here, safely on the ground," she shot back, giving him a playful glare. "Someone has to keep an eye on you all."

"Good call," JJ admitted, cracking a grin. "We need someone to remind us not to jump off roofs."

"Or act like idiots," Eleanor added, rolling her eyes.

John B grinned, raising his beer in a mock toast. "To our guardian angel!"

Eleanor couldn't help but laugh. "Just don't make it too hard for me to save you."

Kie walked out from the house that was under construction, her face clearly frustrated. "They're gonna have Japanese toilets with towel warmers"

"Of course. Why wouldn't they?" JJ replied, rolling his eyes.

"This used to be a turtle habitat," Kie sighed. "but who cares about the turtles, I guess."

"I can't have cold towels," JJ said, trying to provoke her.

Ellie shot him a glare. They all knew how much Kie cared about the turtles. "I think he meant he'd rather the turtles survive."

"Thanks for the clarification, Ellie," Kie smirked. "can you please not kill yourself?" Her voice held a hint of concern.
