Zapped

The days at the lab blended together as Gaster worked on his machine. Dr. Vexta, with the Royal Scientist's permission, started to show Sans the ropes of the C.O.R.E. It was a five person job to do anything with it, after all, and Gaster wasn't leaving that DTE machine unfinished. Sans' job was pretty simple. All he had to do was imput a few codes to slow the machine down for the cooldown process while Dr.Vexta and Dr. Muzc did some maintenance checks to the interior of the C.O.R.E. Dr. Tika and Dr. Felidae would be doing the heavy lifting in the control rooms, checking the panels to make sure they were functioning properly, and keeping the C.O.R.E at a steady temperature where it wouldn't completely shutdown or get too hot and harm the scientists inside. It was the only time that Sans had ever seen Dr. Felidae was confident about something. He was clearly comfortable with the controls. Dr. Felidae looked over at Sans and gave him a nod. "You can begin the cool down process now, Sans. They are ready to go in. And remember. Don't use your magic once the gates are open." He warned seriously.

The C.O.R.E reacted badly to magic. It was the first thing they warned Sans about when they agreed to let him help. Sans started to type in the codes written before him and watched the burning hot ball of magic respond. More blues, greens, and purples streaked through the otherwise white ball, and it began to shrink down in size. Dr. Felidae had taken over, now, his fingers flying across the controls as he continued the shutdown sequence. Sans, having completed his task, wandered a little closer to the gate to watch the core from afar. It shrunk, smaller and smaller, until it had compacted itself into the size of one of those yoga balls people sat on. It was small and cyan, flickering a little here and there as Dr. Vexta and Dr. Muzc split up and checked the paneling along the chamber walls. Sans didn't really know how long he'd been watching before Dr. Tika startled him. "Five minute warning! Dr. Felidae won't be able to keep it in cooldown much longer, so hurry back!" Sans jumped, and Tika smiled in apology. Upon looking at the compacted core, it did seem to start changing, turning yellow as it heated up.

Dr. Muzc was the first to make it back. The guy practically sprinted the entire way. But Vexta didn't have that luxury. They had to slither along as fast as they could. "ONE MINUTE WARNING, DR. VEXTA!!!" Tika bellowed, making Sans flinch at how loud she was. His eyelights darted from Vexta to the core, which slowly started to expand in size. Beads of sweat started to appear over how close a call I would be. Sans fingers twitched, and he clenched his hands into fists. He couldn't use magic. He had to trust Vexta to make it. He was gonna need a nap after this. The core seemed to be on their tail when they finally slithered in, the yellow ball of magic expanding faster. Dr. Felidae immediately got to closing the gate as Sans breathed a sigh of relief. "great going dr. v, ya nearly gave me a soul attac- aghh!" Sans felt something burn into his right socket and quickly spread throughout his frame as he dropped to his knees. The others panicked as Sans screamed, the pain and energy from the core overloading his mind and soul before the sweet relief of darkness consumed him.

"After pushing nearly a hundred ounces of DT into his system, Sans has finally stabilized. The cracks have sealed shut," Sans couldn't see, couldn't move. He was too heavy. He was confused. That voice was familiar. "What I am saying, as that your brother is healed. He just needs to rest." The voice continued. Little footsteps ran towards Sans, and he felt something heavy land on him. "W-wait- h-his HP!" Another voice stuttered, but the first voice cut him off. "No, it will be fine." What was going on? Who was on his? Whoever it was, grabbed his shoulders and took a deep breath before trying to shake him awake. "WAKE UP, YOU LAZYBONES!!! YOU'VE BEEN SLEEPING FOR THREE WEEKS!!!" It screeched, but Sans couldn't have cared less. He definitely knew that voice. It gave him the DETERMINATION he needed to fight against the dark heaviness that he'd been stuck in. "Please, Sans... I-I Am Scared..." That spurred Sans to open his blurry sockets and lift his heavy arm to drag Papyrus into a limp hug. "i'z ok... 'm here, bro..." He slurred tiredly. But it was enough for Papyrus.

Sans was determined to stay awake until Papyrus had to go. It was Grillby who picked him up to take him to the Inn. Sans would have to thank him properly once he was able to go home again. "Well, I wasn't expecting you to be awake this early. Then again, determination is a powerful thing." Gaster shooed out the rest of his assistants. "mm... determination... but... wha'... the c.o.r.e... wha' happened...?" Gaster went to sit next to his patient. "The short version, your soul was leaking magic from the stress. The core reacted to that magic and zapped you. You were in rough shape, but the determination I injected you with had stabilized you." Sans whined softly as he closed his sockets. 'm sorry... i didn'... i need this job, please... one more... one more chance..." Gaster chuckled softly. "I'm not firing you, Sans. I knew about it and failed to consider how the C.O.R.E would react. This is on me, Sans. I am truly sorry." Gaster's sockets widened as Sans moved his hands in clumsy signs before passing out. He forgave Gaster. When in the world did Sans start to learn to sign in wingdings?
