Sans was making dinner for Papyrus when there was a knock at the door. It was nothing too fancy, just a pizza, but he knew Papyrus wouldn't complain. "That boy always knew more than he let on. Sans pulled the pizza out before going to get the door. Sans was surprised to find Dr. Gaster on the other side. "You're late." The tall skeleton scowled. Sans met his mean expression with one of his own. "the only clock i run in at home it Papyrus' sleep schedule, and i need to get him fed soon so i can put him down in time. why are you here?" There was a moment of silence. If Sans didn't know any better, he would say Gaster wasn't used to talkback. "May I come in?" The doctor asked. Maybe he rethought giving Sans the position? The spark of hope had Sans pushing the door open wider as he went to the kitchen to cut up that pizza. "are you hungry? we don't have much, but it works for us." Sans offered as Gaster looked over the toy infested living room. A child was looking at him with wide, excited sockets. Another skeleton, at that.

"HELLO!" Gaster jumped at the volume of the little skeleton's voice. Sans chuckled as he watched from the corner of his eye. "Hello..." The doctor spoke hesitantly as he seemed to look around for someone that Sans knew wasn't there. "Where are your parents?" Gaster asked Papyrus. Seeing as his little bro would be keeping him busy, Sans went to plate the pizza. It didn't stop him from hearing Papyrus, however, knowing he was a loud individual. "SANS SAID THEY WENT TO GET MILK!!!" Sans could hear the discomfort in Gaster's voice. "A-ah- I see. And when did they leave to get the milk?" Sans chose to walk in at that time, seeing as Papyrus wouldn't exactly know. "four years ago, when papyrus was... half a year old, maybe a few months older?" He replied as he put down the plates. Both Gaster and Papyrus made the same displeased face. "PIZZA AGAIN?" Papyrus complained and Sans rubbed his skull as he tried to come up with an excuse other than, he didn't have enough money right now to get something better. "um... hey, how about we go shopping tomorrow and you can pick out what you wanna eat?" Sans suggested. Papyrus was more than pleased with this arrangement.

"Well, I suppose I should get to the crux of why I'm here." Gaster surprised Sans when he actually picked up the offending slice of pizza to eat. "My subordinates told me what you did and we managed to contain the the carbon dioxide for use in another experiment. Your crystals are being compared to the crystals from Waterfall and may also be used in future experiments. I am only curious as to where you learned how to stabilize such a dangerous compound." Sans shrugged as he finished off his first piece of pizza. "it's basic chemistry... i mean... i never did anything like that in high school, but i loved to stay after and expirement or read if i could. i've always had a thing for science." He replied and munched his second piece of pizza. Gaster hummed, a small frown in place as he seemed to fight a war in his head. "I want you in my labs at 6 am sharp. Do not be late, boy." Gaster warned lowly. Sans perked up and nodded quickly! Yes! Finally, the break he was looking for!

Dr. Gaster left not long after and Sans played with Papyrus for a few more hours until it was his bedtime. Papyrus knew it too, and tried to stifle his yawns so Sans wouldn't lay him down. Still, Sans knew Papyrus' schedule well and had followed it to a T since the death of his parents. "tired?" Sans asked in amusement to which Papyrus shook his skull. "NO, I CAN STAY U-" He broke off his sentence with a big yawn, "P..." Sans chuckled and scooped Papyrus up, nuzzling into him as he let his magic deal with the mess behind them. "well, let's get your jammies on anyway, huh? juuuust in case." Papyrus made a noise of complaint, but laid against Sans sleepily, clinging to him. Sans helped him to get into his pajamas correctly and brush his teeth before he tucked him in. "I AM NOT TIRED..." Papyrus complained loudly, but Sans knew otherwise. "just one story before we go back downstairs? it's your favorite." Sans showed off Fluffy Bunny. Papyrus couldn't say no to Fluffy Bunny. "OK... FLUFFY BUNNY..." He agreed with sleepy reluctance. Before Sans knew it, Papyrus was out.

Sans got ready for bed himself. He had to be up early tomorrow if he was gonna make it to the lab on time. He made sure the doors and windows were locked and turned off all the lights before going to his bedroom and setting alarms so he would wake up early. Sans could show them this was the right choice. He was the right choice. He could make more than he ever had, be able to pay the bills, feed Papyrus better quality food, enroll him into 4-K... do everything Papyrus deserved. The authorities wouldn't have to take him away because Sans had a stable job. Sans snuggled down into his sheets with a sleepy yawn of his own. Tomorrow, he would show Dr. Gaster that just because he was young, didn't mean he wasn't capable. He had done it once, he could do it again. He could finally live out a fantasy too, of working as a major scientist. It wasn't an astrologist, but something was better than nothing. Sans fell asleep to more positive thoughts, that night.
