Chapter 5:
The party was already in full swing when Yuvika entered the grand hall, her heartbeat quickening as she was blindfolded for the night’s first game. It was a playful event, one where people would dance with someone chosen at random by fate. She hesitated for a moment, nervous, but let herself be led into the dance floor. Her heart raced with anticipation.
She felt someone’s presence near her, the warmth of a body close, and then she heard his voice. It was unmistakable—low, commanding, and carrying an air of arrogance. Advik. Her breath caught in her throat. Of all people, how had she ended up with him? The odds seemed impossible, yet here they were, connected by chance.
Yuvika’s surprise was palpable, but she quickly masked it. Advik, on the other hand, seemed indifferent, as though nothing had changed between them. They danced for a few beats, the silence between them filled with tension. His hand on her waist, his proximity—it was intoxicating, confusing her already conflicted emotions. His touch was cold, calculating, much like the aura he carried.
After a few moments, the dance floor dimmed as the party continued, and Yuvika's friends called her away. Reluctantly, she pulled away from Advik’s grasp, though her mind lingered on the moment they shared. She joined her friends, feeling an unusual flutter in her chest.
They drank, laughed, and carried on with the evening’s festivities, but Yuvika refrained from alcohol, as she always did. She excused herself after some time, feeling the need for air. But her mind was elsewhere. She couldn’t stop thinking about Advik—his presence, the way he made her feel both drawn and repelled.
Curiosity, or perhaps something deeper, pushed her to seek him out. She wandered through the hall, scanning the faces around her but not finding him. That’s when she noticed the slightly ajar door at the end of the corridor. Something about it pulled her in.
Yuvika crept closer, her steps light, hesitant. As she approached, voices reached her ears. Advik’s voice was unmistakable again, but this time it held a different tone—sharp, dangerous. Her heart thudded painfully in her chest as she peeked through the crack in the door.
Inside, she saw Advik and his friend, standing tall and cold, their expressions hard. Two men were on the floor, bleeding from visible wounds. Yuvika’s eyes widened in horror. What was this? Her mind raced as she tried to make sense of what she was witnessing. Advik wasn’t just some arrogant, mysterious guy—he was something far darker.
Her breath caught in her throat as she watched the scene unfold. Advik was towering over a trembling girl, his voice low and menacing as he demanded a name from her. The girl stammered, tears streaming down her face, but eventually gave him what he wanted. Without hesitation, Advik raised his gun and fired a single shot. The girl’s body crumpled to the floor.
Yuvika’s scream stayed lodged in her throat, her body frozen in shock. Her hands trembled uncontrollably, and in her panic, she knocked over a small showpiece near the door. The sound shattered the tense silence in the room. Advik’s eyes snapped toward the door, his expression darkening as he realized he wasn’t alone.
For a split second, their eyes met. Advik’s face shifted—regret, anger, and something Yuvika couldn’t quite decipher. But she didn’t wait to find out. She turned and bolted, her feet carrying her as fast as they could back toward the safety of the crowd. Her heart pounded in her chest, her mind still struggling to process what she had seen.
Advik was close behind her, his footsteps heavy, but Yuvika disappeared into the sea of people. She reached her group of friends, breathless and shaken, and clung to them for dear life. Advik halted, watching from a distance. He didn’t dare approach her while she was surrounded by her friends—his eyes, however, never left her.
