Chapter - The Silent Obsession

The night was heavy, cloaked in shadows as Yuvika walked the lonely path back to her hostel. She gripped her bag tightly, her nerves on edge, the weight of a presence haunting her steps. She couldn't shake the feeling of being watched; each glance over her shoulder confirmed that no one was there, but she could feel him—his invisible gaze trailing her like a silent shadow.

Her phone buzzed, the sound piercing the quiet night. She glanced at it, and her heart dropped.

“Lovely night, isn’t it? I like the way you walk, Yuvika. So graceful, so… unaware.”

A shiver crawled up her spine as she looked around, scanning the dark street, her eyes desperate for any sign of him. But it was empty, desolate, as though the world had shrunk to only her and her invisible pursuer.

With shaky hands, she shoved the phone into her pocket and quickened her pace, her breath coming in shallow gasps. She didn’t dare look back again, afraid of what she might—or might not—see.

Back in her room, she leaned against the door, her mind racing. She couldn’t escape his words; they felt like an unbreakable bond, binding her in a twisted game she hadn’t asked to play.

Days passed, each message more disturbing than the last. She found herself dreading the chime of her phone, yet unable to resist the pull, the dark curiosity of reading his words. It was as if his presence had seeped into every corner of her life.

One morning, she awoke to the sound of her phone buzzing incessantly. Groggy, she reached over and unlocked it, her heart pounding as she read the new message.

“You look so peaceful when you sleep. Did you know that? Like a beautiful, fragile thing I could protect… or destroy.”

Her breath hitched. How…?

She glanced around her room, feeling a wave of panic rise. Was he… watching her?

She leapt out of bed, scanning her room for any hidden cameras, her hands trembling as she searched every corner, behind every piece of furniture. But she found nothing.

Buzz.

Another message. She almost didn’t want to read it, but curiosity got the best of her.

“It’s pointless to look. I see you, Yuvika. Everywhere. Every moment.”

Her fingers shook as she typed, breaking her silence for the first time in weeks. “Who are you? What do you want from me?”

The reply was instant, chilling in its simplicity.

“You already know. I want you, Yuvika. Only you.”

---

Weeks went by, each message eroding her sanity, each word sinking deeper into her thoughts. He knew her routines, her friends, even the books she liked. Sometimes, his messages were almost… sweet. He would comment on her favorite café, the flowers she liked to pass on her way to class. It was as though he saw every detail of her life, a terrifying knowledge that was both unsettling and oddly magnetic.

One evening, while she sat in her room trying to focus on her studies, her phone buzzed again.

“Come to the balcony. The moonlight suits you.”

Her heart raced, but she couldn’t help herself. Against her better judgment, she walked out to the balcony, her eyes searching the darkened streets below.
