"I haven't seen a lot of horror movies, but this seems like exactly the kind of place they'd suggest to avoid," Percy said as he saw the flickering sign of Water Land.
"Yeah... I'd say the same thing." Odyssa muttered as they entered the haunted-looking water park, "Do you think monsters would be here? Y'know, considering that Ares left his shield here?"
"I dunno, I was gonna ask you that." Percy shrugged, "What horror movie reminds you of this?"
"I dunno, something like Dark Ride, right?" Odyssa suggested.
"Dark Ride? Hm, never seen it." Percy said and Odyssa nodded.
"Honestly, I kind of wish I never saw it in the first place." She admitted, "But maybe after all of this is over and we're alive, we could watch it together."
"Like... The two of us?" Percy asked and Odyssa scrunched her face.
"No, the four of us, Perce." Odyssa said, "Annabeth's never seen a movie and Grover doesn't like scary stuff so maybe we could watch something a bit less... Horror-like?"
"Sounds good to me." Percy smiled as he pushed through the gate. Odyssa frowned before Percy got locked in and the sound of metal grinding echoed through the silence. "Um... Dessa?"
"That's Celestial bronze?" Odyssa scrutinized the killing machine.
"Oh, fascinating. Dessa, what is happening right now!?" Percy started to panic.
"Don't panic! It'll only make things worse." Odyssa said, "Celestial bronze is what your sword is made of. If you're a human, it won't do anything. If you're a monster or a demigod..." Odyssa let Percy figure out the rest as his eyes widened.
"Well, what's it doing there?" He asked and Odyssa shrugged.
"I dunno but... This is not just some amusement park." She thought out loud, "A god built this place..."
"What god builds a place like this?"
"Hephaestus." She said.
"Why would Hephaestus build an amusement park?"
"I dunno, but considering Ares' shield is here, I'm assuming it's for Ares," Odyssa said as she scrutinized it.
"Okay, that's great! Cool, cool, cool. Now how do I get out of here?" Percy asked.
Odyssa stayed silent as she watched the gears turn. "I think Hephaestus should try doing some haunted houses. He'd get a lot of money for that." She said and Percy shook his head. "Okay, Percy, just push through it."
"What?!"
"Push!" She encouraged him. Percy hesitated before looking back at Odyssa.
"Wasn't Annabeth the one this morning who was all, 'The Fates say one of us is gonna die and we should take it really seriously?'"
"Percy just push it!" She said and Percy sighed. He turned back to the gate before pushing it and entering the park. A sign above clicks and the 000 turns to 001.
Odyssa entered the park as well and the 001 turned to 002. "The machine isn't designed to hurt us. It's meant to scare us." She explained, "Hephaestus wanted to know any time one of us came around his park. And... I guess now he knows."
The duo walked through the park, lights flickered and a few sparks flew. "Hey, Dessa? I think that I'll take you up on that offer for a horror movie night." Percy said, "We could probably watch it after this whole quest thing."
"Totally. I'll make sure to ask for extra snacks from the kitchen." Odyssa said and Percy chuckled softly, still slightly weary about the creepiness of Hephaestus's amusement park.
