Chapter one: Sailing the seas

The seas of green hills were surprisingly...quiet...

The warm golden sun beaming down on Shadow— The Captain of his crew "Team dark" a simple yet meaningful name sat upon the wooden railing taking in the cool warm air that blew around him giving him a calm and safe space to think.

There weren't any signs of any approaching storms, the sky was clear and the birds flew around every now and then, the hedgehog just simply decided to take time for himself today and enjoy himself.. Despite yelling at his crew mates earlier...

His silence was interrupted by the side door of the ship opened and shut abruptly causing Shadow's ear to flick and he snapped his head in the direction of the door. The hedgehog looked down at whatever grabbed a hold of his leg and a small smile appeared on the corner of his lips.

"I thought I put you in your cage how'd you get out?" Shadow hummed and picked up the creature also known as his chao— it was black and red and looked identical to him. He wasn't sure how it got on the ship but ever since their first interaction Shadow's been taking care of it.

The chao squeaked as Shadow picked it up and clung onto his owner happily, the small floating orb on the top of it's head turning into a small heart and it snuggled into Shadow.

Their small bonding moment was interrupted when Rouge, (also know as co Capitan) stepped out and leaned against the door, "Awh look at you and here I thought you didn't care about anyone but yourself" She teased before humming, "I hate to interrupt but your not the only one who needs a break y'know?" She added before taking a seat on the railing just as Shadow was doing previously.

Shadow glanced over at Rouge, his chao still clinging to him as he rolled his eyes. "Don't kid yourself," he muttered. "I just don't want this little guy bothering me while I'm trying to relax."

He scratched the chao behind its ears, eliciting a contented trill from the creature. "Besides, someone's gotta keep an eye on you lot. Can't trust you to stay out of trouble without supervision."

Shadow's gaze drifted back out to the horizon, the sun beginning to dip low in the sky. The breeze picked up, ruffling his quills. "So, what's on your mind, co-captain? Come to admire the view?"

Rouge thought about her answer "Omega is driving me crazy..." She said at last and tucked a strand of her white hair behind her ear, "He's a comedian sometimes" She added before looking down at the small chao in Shadow's arms.

"Someone broke free from prison huh?" She teased as she gave it small head rub, and in return getting a purr, "He's adorable did you pick a name for the little guy?" The bat hummed and continued petting. Shadow scoffed, his grip tightening slightly on the chao. "Don't get too attached. He's just a pet, nothing more."

Despite his gruff words, there was a hint of fondness in his voice. The chao had wormed its way into Shadow's heart over time, though the hedgehog would never admit it out loud.

"As for a name..." Shadow shrugged. "Haven't really thought about it. Figured if he sticks around long enough, he can earn one."

The chao, apparently taking Shadow's comment as an invitation, chirped and nuzzled into the hedgehog's chest. Shadow rolled his eyes again but made no move to push the creature away.

"Anyway, what's Omega been up to that's got you so riled?" Shadow asked, changing the subject. "I swear, that damn robot gets more annoying by the day."

"The usual, trying to constantly blow up the ship..But when we need him for defenses again Team Sonic he's never around..." Rouge replied, "Speaking of I should probably go back inside I started baking brownies and I left him in charge hopefully the stove isn't on fire by the time I get back" She laughed before giving the chao one more head pat and she retreated inside the ship closing the heavy wooden door.
