Inseparable

Chapter 2

We sat in silence for a few minutes after Enzo left, locking the door in the process. “It isn’t possible.. It’s not possible for a gem to turn out male. It has never been done.” I raise my head to look at Garnet, she- no no, he, I see him standing in the corner of the room, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. The room is so simple and plain, the room is white, too bright, it hurts my eyes, and a single bed. “We don't even need to sleep, so what’s the point of having a bed?” I think to myself as I’m sitting on the bed. “This bed fits two people, does the man expect us to sleep together?!?” I shiver at the thought and let out a small sigh through my nose while I anxiously fidgeting.

“You’re new here aren’t you.” His sudden voice startled me, causing me to stop fidgeting and look up at him. “Wha- what?” I stuttered out, surprised that he was talking to me.  “H-how could you tell?” I asked softly wondering how long he's been here to notice who is new. “You don’t look like you have trauma yet, and you still have a glint in your eyes.” I tilt my head slightly to the right in confusion. “What do you mean I dont have trauma yet?” “What experiments does the man do to us, all he told me was what happens in the training room.” I thought to myself, unknowingly scrunching my eyebrows as many thoughts went through my head.

“You don't know what experiments he does, do you?” He asked. “All I was told was what happens in the training room, and on my way here I saw rooms filled with beds and shots.” He nodded at my answer. “You know why he placed us together right?” I shake my head no. “To bond?” “To fuse” my eyes widen a bit in surprise. “Wha- what?” I stuttered. “I think you’re the only Lapis that came out chubby.” I blush at the comment. “Actually I think you're the only gem that came out chubby.” I look away from him as I see a small smirk in his lips and cover my body with the blanket that was on the bed.

“It’s cute…” he said quietly, causing me to blush a bit more. “This is so embarrassing..” I thought to myself as I looked around the room and noticed that there are no windows. “Wait a minute, actually, I don't remember seeing any windows  when I was walking towards here.” I look up towards Garnet. “We’re underground, aren't we.” He nodded. “Yes we are.” I look at his hands, remembering that he has two gems, one on each palm. “So how do you work?” I accidentally said out loud, causing me to be shy and look away. “I don’t know” was what I heard him say. “I know what I can do and I know that I’m the only male.” He paused. “Well.. the only male that survived his experiments that is.” I stay quiet after that and look at the floor in deep thought. “What kind of experiments do you do, Enzo?”

A few minutes pass in silence when all of a sudden Garnet stops leaning against the wall and walks towards me. “Can you scootch over a little?” he said quietly and I blushed a bit in embarrassment as I was sitting in the middle of the bed and scooted to the end of the bed. “O- oh.. sorry..” I said quietly as I watched him get in the bed and layed down, making me look at him in confusion. “You’re going to sleep? But we don't need sleep.” “I’m doing it to pass the time, now flip the light off and stay quiet.” He said it a bit stoically. “Okay..” I said quietly and mostly to myself as I stood up and towards the switch and flicked it down, turning off the light then walked to the corner and sat down, still wrapped in the blanket.

“What’s going to happen next?” I look towards Garnet. “How would he regenerate if he has two gems? Would he turn to two gems?” I let out a small sigh and glance at the door. “Enzo.. he's the man that created me.. He also created Garnet.. A male Garnet.. How is that even possible..  And how old is Garnet.. He sounds like he’s been here for a while.” I glanced at Garnet once again and noticed that he also has the collar on. “How are we going to escape this place? He also has a small accent when he talks… cute.”

I shake that thought out of my head as I let the blanket slowly and softly fall onto the floor. “Fusion huh” I looked down at my gem as it’s placed on my navel and placed my hand over it. “I wonder.. How does it feel like to fuse? Has garnet fused with another gem before? Did he have a partner before I came in? What happened to them? And why was I made?” I close my eyes and let out a small sigh.

“Can’t stay quiet huh” “eeek!” I squeaked as I jumped a bit and turned around to see Garnet sitting on the bed with his arms on his knees, looking at me. “You- you startled me” I said, panting softly while I kept my hand over my gem. “Do you want to learn how to sleep?” He asks as he stands up, facing me and I stay quiet, frozen a bit out of confusion. He notices my frozen state and says “lay down on the bed, and close your eyes.” I let out a small breath and slowly began to move towards the bed and lay down on my back with my hands on the sides. “Like this?” I asked softly, not knowing how to sleep. “Why am I even doing this?” I questioned myself. “Close your eyes and stay quiet till you fall asleep.” He said as he was kinda towering over me, making me shy. “O- okay..” I said softly as I took a deep breath and closed my eyes.

I tried to keep my mind blank but so many thoughts went through my head, so many questions that had yet to be answered. “I don't know what I’ll do to get out of here, and I wonder how many more gems he made, but.. At Least I’m not alone..” I thought to myself as I slowly began to fall asleep, not knowing that Garnet was watching me the whole time.
