The first few weeks of school pass with GN!Y/N trying to engage Engel in small talk, but he always responds with curt nods or dismissive comments. Which was, definitely, unusual for the usually energetic and kind friend of theirs.

One rainy afternoon, GN!Y/N finds Engel sitting alone on a bench, staring blankly at the ground.

"Mind if I sit, buddy?" GN!Y/N asks, already settling down beside him.

Engel shrugs, eyes still cast down. "Whatever."

"Looks like a storm is brewing," GN!Y/N comments, trying to lighten the mood. "But I've got an umbrella if you need it."

Engel scoffs lightly, his breath hitching at the unexpected kindness that he usually spreaded out to others. "I don't need anyone's help currently. I'm fine right now."

GN!Y/N stays quiet for a moment, letting the silence hang heavy. "I get that. But sometimes, it's okay to let someone in."

After a few minutes, Engel finally glances at GN!Y/N, surprised by the sincerity in their eyes. "Why do you care about me? I'm fine. Like always."

"Because everyone deserves someone to talk to," GN!Y/N replies gently. "And I think you're worth it."
