You're here.
Your feet scrunch on the deceased grass, crushing it under your heel even as you stroll towards the sign. The wind is like the raging sea, wildly thrashing and ramming into whatever it can; whether it be islands or ships. In this case, it speeds into you, attempting to rip your form apart and spread it into the open world. Luckily...the wind is not nearly strong enough.
"Uh, are you sure about this? Normally I trust you but, uh, this place is pretty sketchy."
You turned back to look at Uzi, the shorter drone following a bit slowly. Her purple eyes flick around the environment, boots softly crackling against the floor. A small frown is on her face, like the hesitation faintly scratching against the back of her mind; just barely there.
"You did not need to follow if you were uncomfortable."
Uzi looks down. "No, it's...fine." She shakes her head.
You spun back around, continuing to walk into the so-called 'camp-site'. The path is perfectly preserved as it was decades ago, the frost enveloping it fully. The only illumination you have is the twin moons, regularly disappearing and reappearing behind the series of shadows the trees create. Nonetheless, it's bright enough.
"Never been out this far." N's voice perks up, landing down. His wings retract, folding into his back as he joins you. Getting carried here was a bit awkward, but you weren't about to waste time trekking a mile or two.
"You haven't been outside the city?"
"Nope. J thought that we should stay close to the colony."
"Why?" Uzi raises an eyebrow.
"Something about the territory of other squads." V cuts in, her tail flicking around with boredom. It made sense. Spreading out the disassembly drones covered more area, and you wouldn't have to worry about power since by design, a murder drone would be far more powerful than a worker.
You stop at the campus of the...campsite, eyes scanning the area with caution. A single cabin sat there, wooden logs composing its form, no doubt held together by nails and possible other adhesives. Performing a quick x-ray revealed a series of beds, the information collecting inside your mind to form the complete idea: the building was the bunks of the campsite.
The clouds pass under the moon, the light fading for just a second. A hundred-meter long shadow crawls over the land, consuming everything regardless of shape and weight into itself. The surroundings almost shrink, constricting around you with unpierceable black. The difference in luminosity is just barely enough for you to take in data for a slightly longer amount of time, just enough for...
A being shimmers into existence.
The drone's long hair drapes over their face, straight and blunt bangs like a curtain for the crimson eyes that are marked on their visor. Fleshy tendons and skin connected to form horrible, large wings behind their back, long spindly digits extending out of the bend of the wings; drifting and wandering. Five eyes, bloodshot and mad were fused into their head, twitching and darting from one target to another. A tail slithers out behind them, the head of the tail not a stinger like one would expect. The head of the tail was a living being, two jaws connecting to form a maw. Eyes open wide, crimson lighting up the frost-covered dirt.
Was that...Doll?
Before you can think, the hybrid of flesh and steel blitzes forward; claws sinking into your chest and hooking on as the creature lashes out, flinging you to the side. You hadn't expected such a high level of force, the simple gesture's strength already surpassing that of a disassembly drone's dozens of times over. The air rushes by as you attempt to stop yourself, but the creature acts incredibly fast; a single mighty beat of its wings accelerating it forward, allowing the...thing to crash into you. Whatever it was, its speed and power had been beyond what had come before. It stomps you into the dirt, jumping off of your body and landing a few meters away.
