EVELYN CARTER has always looked to approach life with a smile, as cheesy and short sighted as it sounds. To most, she has so much to smile about; the house she lives in, the money that lines her pockets and a loving family that would do anything for her. But the thing that kept the corners of her mouth pitched up was the feel of a camera in her hands and something to photograph before her. In a place like the Outer Banks, Evelyn has never been short on moments to capture — she still has a photo of Sarah Cameron stacking it off a surfboard from when they were ten.
Yet, like with most people, Evelyn was always hiding away parts of herself that wouldn't fit the normality of the island. She didn't care for the riches or the boats, no Evelyn was one who smiled in public at things like that and cried over them in private. A loving family maybe, but an absent one at that — a father whom she hasn't seen in ten years, a dead mother and a step-father who is working so often she hardly sees him. She may have a big house, but it's so very empty.
Little Miss Sunshine, that's what she's heard people call her, and yet with her mind there's hardly any brightness. A girl who knows the part she has to play and plays it oh so well.
