I am proud of what I am. What I will do.
I am aware that the Commissar hates me. I will make her pay in some way. I am also aware that the Inquisitor whose brother I avenged is indebted to me, and I will call in my favor when so required. Even if he was not a high-level Inquisitor (I do not know whether he was), a person with that rosette was ten thousand steps ahead of those without. So I would likely come out much stronger with even remote support from a low-level member.
My new status as a hero was much appreciated: not only could I feel good... I could also use such fame to my benefit. The people in my squad were more likely to listen to my commands. As was the rest of the Regiment.
As of now, our current objective was to liberate the world we were in, Kars Sonnen, from an Orkoid invasion. The Orks had somehow launched a strategic invasion into the Cadian system, raiding the three fortress worlds (other than Cadia itself). The Warboss, Big Humie-Krumpa, had announced his specific objective to krump the humies, as he put it. Kars Sonnen, Kars Holn and Kars Partox were under seige.
The thing was: the Warboss had barely begun his invasion at Kars Partox, and sent two big Orks of his own specific choosing to raid the other two. The Ork invading Kars Sonnen, Chieftain Mek-Cap'n Jon Pryze, was a particularly big Ork, and smart. He had quickly raided all the spaceports after we arrived in a surprise attack, cutting off reinforcements and escape.
Our current objective: recapture the spaceports and kill Pryze.
The Commissar began to lay down the plans, and coordinated with the Sergeants. It appeared that the Sergeants had already been communicating with the Commissar to discuss plans for the past few days, and we held a single spaceport.
Our biggest piece of luck was that the Mek-Cap'n had himself set up headquarters in a nearby spaceport we were about to besiege. If we killed him, the Siege would definitely suffer a blow deadly enough to potentially break the back of the invaders, ending the Cadian War, as it had been named.
Our squad seemed to have been placed at the direct frontline. I had a hunch that the Commissar was attempting to get someone (likely me) killed, but I decided not to voice my suspicions lest I get shot for Heresy.
There was one major entrance to the spaceport, and one minor. The first was located in the north, the second in the east. Both led from the spaceport to a small area outside which a lot of things were assembled. There were two entrances to this area too: from the south-west and the south, with a small fortified area near the south-east corner of the area.
There would be two invasion forces mounted from the south and south-west. Problem was, the southern gate would field our main force, and the south-western force was a mere accessory. They would have to fight hordes of Orks backed by cavalry, to bring both forces at the exact same moment, to the area. Then the infantry and the light cavalry would enter the area, storm the spaceport, seize the fortification, create another, and then fight tooth-and-nail through the area to enter the spaceport. Then came the spaceport itself: the Warboss had to be killed and the Orks scattered.
Why did they have no Space Marines here?
Are they stupid?
Anyway...
Off we go to war. I was thinking that the first battle would be easier, how wrong I was...

Blood and ashes were the only things I saw.
There were eight of us behind this rock: I and my team (Brutus, Iden, Claudia, Angeline), the Sergeant, and two guys named Cassius (the one I had seen yesterday) and Cyrus.
