A month passed quickly. Things went smoothly as we continued cleaning up some dozens of Nobs across Kars Sonnen. The team was excellent so far. Rigel and Judas were quite fine. Rigel was professional but civil, ever a polite killing machine. Judas was busy hero-worshipping me (despite my requests to tone it down somewhat) and was quite a prodigy at his work. I instinctively knew that they were good selections. As for Galen, he was subdued and quiet, and would not speak unless prompted. It was also reflected by their overall attitude: Judas would attempt to ask me about the Priest I had exposed and the Ork Chieftain I had killed. Galen would peruse a book or something, while Rigel would train himself further.
Cyrus was, again, a very talkative and nerdy guy. He would ask me a lot of things, and tell me a lot more as well. He knew a lot. Cassius was more polite, but he continued to ask me for more sparring sessions. I had no idea why. He also proudly paraded as my bodyguard. Meanwhile, Brutus was just as usual: he was cheerful as usual, though I noticed he had an attraction to using fire on hostiles.
Angeline was regaining more of her pre-Roman personality, and would often engage us in conversation. However, whenever I said something remotely close to flirty, she would blush and look away. Was she smitten with me... or someone else on the team? Of course I wanted her at my side.
My days had become a lot more busy now: when I was not in the warzone or on duty, I was having my mind fucked out of my body by Olga and Claudia. I also discovered that I was needing very little sleep: I soon confirmed that my powers were keeping me awake.
As for my powers, I was slowly mastering some of them. I was able to run for long distances, at higher speed, jump higher and reach longer distances, sense obstacles with my eyes closed, heal extremely fast, and several other elementary abilities. I had yet to see another vision, but I knew I had them, and my mind seemed to have been blocked off to others. I could also protect myself and others from incoming bullets, subtly.
However... my powers were slowly becoming more offensive and less subtle. I was able to choke living organisms to death. I immediately tested the power on small wildlife, and a couple of Guardsmen who had annoyed me. Nobody suspected that they had not been killed by their dinners. I was also able to fire bolts from my hands, and I used this to blast a door, a tree line, and several animals to pieces. They thought a fire had broken out.
Anyway...
Persephone was extremely aloof and grumpy, and her bitch face corresponded with her attitude. I, who was literally their leader in all but name, found it extremely difficult to get her to cooperate.
I had been kicked in the shins.
She had called me a pervert some fifteen times a day.
And so on and so forth.
The real problem, however, was Valerie. She was extremely sweet, polite and cheerful on the outside, but something was terribly wrong. I could often feel her presence in my mind, probing in, trying too delve further. I protected myself by pushing forward memories experienced by the real Hades before I had replaced him. I could feel her annoyance and frustration. I also did not need to sleep much, except when my body ran out much.
Another problem I was facing that my underwear was rapidly going missing. Three sets of them had been missing for a long time. Who was stealing my underwear? Was it Valerie? It could be an innocent motive to get in my pants, but it could also be something sinister.
Anyway...
I drank a cup of tea while waiting for curfew to fall. The operations were almost over: soon we would be out of the planet and towards Kars Holn. After the so-called Cadian Ork War, we would be deployed to the main Cadia, where Daemon invasions in the Eye of Terror were becoming even more erratic. Lesser Daemons and cultist infiltrations were much more frequent. But most of the Greater Daemons, Daemon Princes and stronger elements had gone almost silent. I knew the actual canon, so I knew that the Warmaster was basically readying the prelude to the Thirteenth Black Crusade. The Cadian War was weakening the armies in the Cadian system, just in time for the Thirteenth Black Crusade to strike. Considering this war had not happened in canon, unless I was able to intervene properly the Guard would break along with the planet. I hoped to preserve both, so...
