Author POV

"You… you have what?" Y/N shot up from her seat, staring at her mom in disbelief. They had just finished watching a movie together, expecting a relaxing evening, but her mom’s announcement hit like a lightning bolt. “You’re saying… you have a boyfriend?”

Her mom looked down nervously, a faint blush on her cheeks. “Yes, I have a boyfriend,” she admitted softly. “I know I should’ve told you sooner, but… I wasn’t sure how.”

Y/N’s mouth opened and closed as she processed this. A boyfriend? Her mind spun, emotions clashing inside her: a sting of hurt that her mom had kept this a secret, a flash of anger, and a touch of happiness knowing her mom had found someone who made her feel loved again.

“Y/N… Y/N,” her mom’s voice brought her back, seeing the expression on her daughter’s face.

“Mom, how could you keep this from me?” Y/N’s voice shook as she tried to hold back tears. “You didn’t trust your own daughter enough to share this with her?”

Her mom reached for her hand, her face softening with regret. “I’m so sorry, sweetheart. I wanted to tell you, but I didn’t know how. Please, trust me. He’s a good man. He’s sweet and caring, and… I love him.” She hesitated, then continued, “I would never try to replace your dad. He’ll always have a place in my heart, but… I need to move forward, and this feels right.”

Y/N took a deep breath, letting her mom’s words sink in. “I get it, Mom. I just… I’m hurt that you kept this from me. You’re all I have, and I thought we told each other everything.”

Her mom pulled her into a warm hug, brushing a hand through her hair. “I’m sorry, my sweet girl. Please forgive your silly mom.”

Y/N rolled her eyes but smiled despite herself. “Fine, you’re forgiven,” she said, smirking a little. “But promise me, no more secrets. Ever.”

Her mom chuckled, looking relieved. “Promise. No more secrets.”

“So, who is this lucky guy, anyway?” Y/N asked, curiosity sparking in her voice.

Oh, look at you, already teasing me,” her mom laughed. “Well… he’s kind and thoughtful, and he really wants to meet you. How about tomorrow after university?”

“He wants to meet me?” Y/N felt a mix of nerves and excitement. “Alright, Mom. Tomorrow it is.”

Her mom gave her a grateful smile. “Good. Now, it’s getting late—let’s get to bed. You have a big day tomorrow.”

They hugged one last time, saying goodnight, and headed to their rooms.

As Y/N lay in bed, she stared at the ceiling, her thoughts racing. A boyfriend… for Mom? She hadn’t seen this coming at all.

I just hope this decision doesn’t change my life too much.

Time Skip

"Bye, Mom! I'm taking the bus today," Y/N said, slipping on her shoes.

Her mom handed her a small lunchbox. "Okay, take care, hmm? Call me once you leave the university."

Y/N hugged her mom with a warm smile. "Yes, Mom. Bye!" With that, she headed out the door.

Now at the bus stop, Y/N waited patiently for her ride, glancing around at the other students. Soon enough, she reached the university and found herself standing in front of the towering gates. She took a deep breath, mentally preparing herself for the day ahead. Her friends wouldn’t be there; they’d messaged last night saying they had other commitments, so she’d be on her own today.

"Well, guess it's just me then," she thought, heading into the building.

Making her way through the crowded hallways, Y/N was on a mission to find her classroom. Today's lecture was in the science wing. Suddenly, she heard a faint, muffled sound coming from a nearby storeroom. She paused, listening closely. It sounded like someone in pain.

Should she go check? For a moment, she hesitated. Curiosity won out. Sighing, she walked towards the storeroom door, gently pushing it open.

Inside, a boy was sitting on the floor, his hand drenched in blood. Red stains pooled on the floor beneath him, and he looked like he was struggling to keep his composure through the pain. He seemed startled by her sudden appearance and turned his cold gaze on her.

"What happened to you?" she asked, worried lacing her tone.

He glared back, clearly defensive. "None of your business," he replied, his voice icy.

But Y/N’s focus was fixed on his injured hand. Ignoring his attitude, she spoke softly, "I know it's not my business, but you’re losing a lot of blood. A cold reply won’t stop it, you know."

His eyes narrowed. "I said it’s none of your business. Get out."

Y/N was nothing if not stubborn. She sighed, setting down her bag and pulling out a first aid kit. Her mom’s words echoed in her mind: You never know when it might be needed. Better to carry one just in case.

Without waiting for his permission, she took his hand gently, beginning to clean the wound. The boy watched her, clearly puzzled, yet he remained silent as she continued. Her eyes were focused entirely on his hand, determined to help.

"Why… why are you doing this?" he muttered, almost to himself.

Finally, Y/N finished wrapping the bandage securely around his hand. “There. Just take care of yourself, okay?” She stood up, packing away the first aid kit. “And you should eat something soon. You’ve lost a lot of blood. You’ll need the energy.”

Surprisingly, he nodded. “Okay,” he said quietly, the harshness in his voice softened.

It was only then that Y/N looked up, taking in his face for the first time. Her breath caught in her throat.

It was none other than…
