(same day)

As the last bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, students spilled out of their classrooms, eager to head home or catch up with friends. Rudra, Chhaya, and Saranyu found themselves standing near the main entrance, the bustle of the school corridor gradually fading as students left.

"Hey, how about we go to that new café nearby?" Rudra suggested, looking at Chhaya and Saranyu with a hopeful smile. "I heard they have great snacks and drinks."

Saranyu hesitated, glancing back towards their classroom. "Do we really have to go? I mean, we could just hang out here."

Rudra stepped closer, his voice gentle but insistent. "Won't you accompany me? It would be nice to spend some time together outside of school."

Chhaya saw Saranyu's uncertainty and decided to support Rudra's suggestion. She smiled warmly. "Come on, Saru. It'll be fun. We could all use a break."

Reluctantly, Saranyu agreed, and the three friends headed towards the café. As they reached the class door, Saranyu stopped, her gaze drifting back to Aksha, who was still inside, packing his bag. For a brief moment, time seemed to stand still, he looked up and, seeing her watching. Aksha's expression softened, and a genuine smile spread across his face, a stark contrast to the tension that had been present earlier. Saranyu's heart ached with a mixture of nostalgia and sadness, but she reciprocated the smile, a silent acknowledgment of their shared past and the complexities of their present.
Chhaya and Rudra, standing just outside the classroom, watched the silent exchange. Rudra's brow furrowed with concern, while Chhaya's protective instincts flared up, but she remained silent, respecting the moment.
Saranyu took a deep breath, turned away from the classroom, and joined her friends. Together, they walked down the hallway, their footsteps echoing against the tiled floors. As they exited the school building, the late afternoon sun bathed them in its golden light, casting long shadows behind them.
The nearby café was a quaint little place with a cozy atmosphere. The scent of freshly brewed coffee and baked goods greeted them as they entered, and the sound of soft jazz music played in the background. They chose a corner table by the window, the sunlight filtering through the lace curtains creating intricate patterns on the wooden surface.
As they settled into their seats, Chhaya glanced at Saranyu, her eyes filled with a mix of concern and determination. "Saru, we're here for you. Whatever you're going through, we're in this together.
"Rudra nodded, reaching out to give Saranyu's hand a reassuring squeeze. "Yeah, we're here for you, Saru. Always.
"Saranyu looked at her friends, her heart swelling with gratitude. Despite the challenges they faced and the unresolved tensions, she knew that with Chhaya and Rudra by her side, she could find the strength to navigate the complexities of her emotions and relationships.
Rudra glanced at Chhaya and Saranyu, then stood up with a grin. "Alright, ladies, what would you like? My treat." Chhaya ordered a Peppermint Mocha, Saranyu chose a Java Chip Frappuccino, and Rudra decided on a Hot Chocolate for himself. After placing the orders, Rudra returned to their table, the comforting hum of conversation and clinking of cups surrounding them.
The café was cozy, filled with the scent of fresh coffee and baked goods. The warm lighting created a welcoming atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for their gathering. They talked lightly about their day, trying to ease the tension that had been following them.
A few minutes later, their drinks arrived. Rudra got up to bring them from the counter, along with a selection of pastries he had ordered: a blueberry muffin, a cream cheese Danish, a chocolate tart, spanakopita, a potato and cheese knish, and a curry puff. The assortment was colorful and enticing, spread out on the table like a small feast.
Rudra set everything down, smiling at the delighted looks on Chhaya's and Saranyu's faces. "I thought we could use some treats," he said, sitting back down. "Dig in.
"As they started on the pastries, the conversation flowed more easily, punctuated by laughter and shared memories. The spanakopita was flaky and savory, the blueberry muffin bursting with fresh berries, and the chocolate tart was decadently rich. Each bite seemed to lift their spirits a bit more.
Yet, beneath the surface of their cheerful chatter, deeper thoughts churned. Saranyu's mind was consumed with the need to understand the truth about Aksha's sudden change. She replayed the earlier moments in her head, trying to piece together what could have caused him to become so different.
Chhaya, on the other hand, was solely focused on ensuring Saranyu's happiness. Every laugh, every smile from Saranyu was a small victory for her. She kept a watchful eye on her friend, ready to step in and shield her from any more hurt.
