I wake up to knocking on my door. I check my phone. It's almost 10 am. By the time clean up was done for the wedding last night it was 2 am. After the entrance mishap everything else seemed to go okay, thankfully. The knocking continues.

"Lilla, are you alive in there?"

I recognize the voice as Brooklyn's and drag myself out of bed to answer the door.

"Oh sorry didn't mean to wake you." She says after I open the door.

I can only imagine my bedhead. I was too tired to even shower last night. I literally just fell into bed.

"It's okay. I probably needed to get up anyway." I say and yawn.

"I just wanted to check on you after last night. See how you were. You weren't texting me back but now I see why" she says and gestures to me.

"I survived. Barely. I only got yelled at by Linda once. So I guess that's a win." I say and shrug my shoulders.

Brooklyn laughs and nods her head knowingly.

"Are you off today?" she asks.

"Yeah, the next three days actually. Apparently I worked 95 hours in the last two weeks so the club's business manager said I had to take the next three days off." But honestly I was happy to do so.

"I have a lunch shift today but I'm off tonight. Steph invited us to go out with her and a bunch of other summer staff to Dock's Bar in Georgetown." she replies.

Normally I would turn down going to a bar with all the college kids but after the last two weeks I could use a drink.

"That actually sounds like exactly what I need." I say.

Brooklyn nods and laughs,

"Yeah I thought you might say that. Meet us at the staff dining hall at 8 and we will carpool there!" she says.

"Okay, see you then!" I say as she leaves and I give her a wave.

I decided to spend the rest of the day rotting on the couch. I am completely exhausted after the wedding and my body feels tired from having the panic attack too. I really haven't had a chance to process my two run-ins with Wyatt yet. He was so calm when I was panicking and just so sure of himself. I am always a frantic ball of nerves. His presence was so soothing and he handled everything so maturely for someone his age. I think he did get in my head because I swore I saw him a couple of times the rest of the day but never really got a good look because I was so busy.

I can't believe he came and checked on me after Linda lost it on me. Really I can't believe that he was paying attention enough to see me leave with her. Normally I handle shit by myself. My family was too caught up in their own drama to notice how miserable I was. Over time, I just learned to rely on myself because I knew no one was going to be there for me. But now, out of the blue, Wyatt Abernathy had been there for me twice in one day. Does he have a thing for me after all?

Maybe he's just being a nice guy. I mean, that's how he was raised. I'm sure he talks to a bunch of the girls on summer staff like this. I mean look at him. Those abs...that chin...his light brown eyes. Why would a hot college boy waste all his time on little old me? Emphasis on old.

Even if for some reason he was interested in me, he is still a coworker so I need to stay far away. After last night's fuck up the last thing I need is for Linda to catch me with a coworker. I'm good at events. I know I am. I just have to show Linda that, then things will get better and I will finally be on my way to having a career.
