March 26-28, 2013

Washington, D.C., United States of America

Zack noticed these Aurors were not British, but American, had their wands drawn and ready. He noticed was that they were in Washington D.C., not New York, meaning that there had been a detour due to magical forces.

"Drop your wands immediately!" one of the dozen aurors called out. Both Alex and Zack immediately dropped their wands. Their hands were magically bound after that auror cast a spell mentally. The aurors then confiscated the two wizards' wands.

"Alexandra Russo and Zachary Martin!" One auror spoke. "We have a warrant for your immediate arrest for high crimes and misdemeanors against the wizarding world, issued by the President of MACUSA Samuel G. Quahog. You shall be produced before court tomorrow. Until then, you shall remain under lock and key." he finished, before the aurors escorted them.

A series of panicky thoughts flashed through Zack's mind. He couldn't believe that this was happening. He hadn't done anything illegal; he reminded himself. He didn't know why they were arresting him or what would happen. He then took several deep breaths to calm himself and didn't let the emotions churning around inside him reflect on his countenance, which bore an unreadable expression. He had to stay strong, for Alex's sake.

Zack glanced at Alex, worried about what she was feeling. Alex's shoulders were sunken, she wore a tired, almost doped, expression on her face and looked nothing like the exuberant and brightly vivacious young woman she had been just an hour before. This worried him as he remembered that her father and mother still doubted her ability to hold the title of Russo family wizard. What, then, would he think now, after this? What would Zack's own parents believe?

The Aurors took them towards a side street in the capital, as the spring breeze gently blew in their faces and the warm sun shone down. Once there, the Aurors grabbed hold of the two detenus and apparated into a prison. The two of them were marched in silence to a cell on the top floor, where they were unceremoniously pushed into. The cell was then locked and the small army of Aurors then marched away, their work having been completed.

The cell's walls were black brick, with no windows. There were no beds, no connecting rooms, no water and no food. It was simply a small, dingy room with the entrance being a locked cell door where they could do nothing except sleep, sit or talk. Zack wondered how they would live.

He wasn't sure of their location because his pocket map had been taken away. He wasn't sure of the time because his watch had been taken away. He couldn't communicate with anyone as his cell phone as well as Alex's, had been taken away. The only human contact he had left was Alex.

"I can't believe this. What did we do to deserve this?" Zack pondered in despair, pacing around.

Alex, silent until then, let out a laugh. It was unlike anything Zack had ever heard escape her lips before then: loud, shrill and derisive. It made his hair stand on end and gave him goosebumps.

"What do you mean, what did we do to deserve this?" she asked him, fury burning intensely in her eyes as she glared at him. Zack recognized her consternation and stayed silent, sensing an explosion.

"You did something wrong, which is why you got arrested. I did something wrong, which is why I got arrested. That's why we're here: we did something wrong. We just don't know what we did wrong, but we'll be enlightened tomorrow before we're justly punished and deservedly so. I literally created an evil version of myself which tried taking over the world, while you no doubt must've used magic for selfish reasons. We don't deserve to be family wizards." she intensely monologued.

Alex's voice cracked from emotions as he said those last words, and the tears flowed rapidly from her eyes after that, staining her black dress. Zack reached out and hugged her, cradling her comfortingly ins his arms, as he let her sob her heart out. She ran her tear ducts dry, and once that happened, Zack slightly loosened his grip on her and looked closely at her.
