Hyannah drifted through worlds that flickered like candle flames in her mind. Every night, she slipped through layers of sleep and past the edge of dreams, where her own imagination faded, and the mysterious landscapes of lucid realms began. The dreams were hers, but they weren’t entirely under her control. There was always a feeling, a hum on the edges of her thoughts—a presence, perhaps, waiting beyond the stars and shadows.

Tonight, the air was sweet with the scent of blooming jasmine, and as she turned her gaze upward, she saw the faintest glimmer of emerald and gold above the canopy of trees. Her steps felt light, her heartbeat drumming with anticipation she couldn’t explain. She had never felt so awake in a dream before, as if each blade of grass beneath her feet, each gust of wind brushing her skin, was crafted just for this moment.

Then she saw him.

A figure cloaked in twilight shadows approached from the horizon, his silhouette wavering like smoke yet solid enough to give her pause. He was the Dream Traveller, a stranger who had appeared in her visions before, slipping through portals she couldn’t quite see, leaving traces of silver light in his wake.

Without speaking, he held out his hand, and in his palm lay a single feather, its edges tinged with brilliant shades of green and gold. She reached out, her fingertips barely grazing the feather when a sudden warmth surrounded her, like the sun breaking through clouds.

A heartbeat later, the feather shifted, shivering in her touch before bursting into a tiny flame. It flared and grew, spinning into a whirlwind of light and color until a figure emerged from the flames—graceful and fierce, with wings like molten emerald and gold.

The phoenix. It spread its wings wide, casting an ethereal glow over them both, its eyes—wise, patient, green as forest leaves—meeting hers.

As the Dream Traveller smiled softly, a silent promise in his gaze, Hyannah knew this was only the beginning of her journey. Her dreams, once her own secret sanctuary, were now a bridge into something vast and unknown, as if she were meant to unravel a mystery woven between stars and dreams.

And with that, the phoenix cried—a song that echoed through her heart, binding her to the dreamscape, to the Dream Traveller, and to every shadow and flame waiting beyond.
