Hyannah felt a sense of completeness as she and Nix stood together in the dreamscape they had explored so deeply. The vibrant colors of the meadow had become a backdrop to their shared journey, and the whispers of countless dreamers they had helped echoed softly around them like a gentle lullaby.
But as they walked, a sense of heaviness began to settle in her heart, something she couldn’t shake off. “Nix,” she said hesitantly, “do you think we’ve helped enough dreamers?”
Nix turned to her, his expression thoughtful. “We’ve made a difference, Hyannah. Each dream we’ve touched has been a step toward healing—not just for them, but for you as well.”
She nodded, but something gnawed at her. “But… what comes next? After all this, what will happen to us?”
Nix’s gaze turned distant as he looked out into the horizon where the sun dipped low, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple. “The dreamscape is a transient world, Hyannah. It exists in the realm of possibilities, and while we’ve forged a bond here, I am not meant to stay.”
The weight of his words crashed down on her. “What do you mean?”
He turned back to her, his eyes reflecting a sadness that sent a chill through her. “This was always temporary. I am a guide, a traveler of dreams, and my purpose is to help dreamers find their way. When our time together is over, I must return to my path.”
“No… no, you can’t leave!” Hyannah’s voice trembled, panic rising within her. “Not after everything we’ve shared!”
Nix took a step closer, his presence warm yet bittersweet. “You have grown so much, Hyannah. You’ve faced your fears, embraced your passions, and helped others along the way. But this journey was about your growth. It’s time for you to walk your own path in the waking world.”
Tears blurred her vision as she shook her head. “But I don’t want to be alone. You’re my anchor in this dream. Without you, what will I do?”
Nix reached out, brushing her hair back from her face, his touch gentle and comforting. “You are never truly alone. I will always be with you in spirit, in the lessons you’ve learned, and in the strength you’ve found within yourself. But you must embrace your own reality, Hyannah. You have a life to live.”
The truth of his words hit her like a tidal wave, and the reality of their impending separation loomed over her like a dark cloud. “But… I’ve fallen for you, Nix. I can’t help it. You mean so much to me.”
Nix’s expression softened, but the sadness remained in his eyes. “I’ve fallen for you too, Hyannah. You have brought light to my existence in this dreamscape. But I am not real, and we both know it. My time here is ending.”
Hyannah felt a sharp pain in her chest as the tears began to flow freely. “Please don’t leave me,” she cried, her voice breaking. “I don’t want this to end.”
“Every beginning has an end, just as every dream must eventually fade,” Nix said gently. “But it is not the end of your journey, Hyannah. It’s just the beginning of a new chapter in your life.”
“No!” she wailed, her heart shattering at the thought of losing him. “I don’t want to let go!”
“Trust that you will carry the essence of our time together with you,” Nix said, his voice firm yet tender. “You have the power to forge your own destiny, to chase your dreams beyond this moment. Please, don’t let my departure hold you back.”
In the depths of her despair, a part of her knew he was right. But the thought of facing the waking world without him felt unbearable. “Nix, I can’t do this without you. What if I fail?”
