"Morning.. did you get any decent sleep last night?" Jamison had brought in coffee in a yellow mug covered in flowers, his hair combed over and wet from a shower. Jenna could smell the shampoo he used, something oaky and fresh. "I think I did a little, I don't know what time I fell asleep, when did we even get back?" "I believe it was about midnight or so, we took the longer way here after picking up Nala, I thought you could use a little drive to calm your mind after how your night went. Are you okay?" Jenna smiled dryly, she knew she would be okay eventually, but getting there wasn't going to be easy. She couldn't stop replaying dinner over and over in her head.. and then she realized something. "Is my sister okay? Does she know what happened?!" Jenna instantly felt fear and she worried that Clair would call the police and tell them what happened.. that Jamison had possibly killed Jacob.. "She's fine, I told her that I had run into you and Jacob at the store. That he had noticed another girl and bailed on you so I ended up taking you back with me and picking up Nala so she wasn't home alone. I told her that after you were stood up I wanted to make sure you were okay." Jamison explained their fairytale of a night well, one that she could remember if something were to ever come up. Clair still hadn't known about Jenna and Jamison yet, so it sounded like he had was a random stranger that swept her up and just took her home. She'd have to explain later that they had already met and that the whole Jacob thing was a disaster that unfolded too fast for her get out of. "Okay.. and.. the body?.. What did you do?" Jenna almost didn't want the answer, but then again she did. "Well, I think it's best if I don't tell you, then if something were to happen you would honestly pass all the questions." Jenna understood and was glad Jamison had said this, and she tried to shut her mind off about the subject after that. Although he could have killed Jacob, she had thought about it much in that moment, she was just glad it be safe with Jamison.
Somehow she'd have to move on, but the thought of that seemed impossible. For now, she would take it one day at a time like everyone always tells you when something tragic happens. "What are we doing today?" Jenna smiled, brushing her minds awfully thoughts away like she did with the dirt on the kitchen floor. "I was thinking that we could paint, my living room has been needing and update, what do you say to going to the store with me? You can pick the color, I trust your judgement." Jamison smiled, he was completely serious, he wanted her to paint his living room whatever she wanted, and she didn't even live there. It was so romantic and exciting, making Jenna question why he wanted to do this. She didn't ask, she just trusted that he had a good reason. "Okay then! I'm game! Let's go!" Jenna jumped up and threw on some fresh clothes she'd packed when they stopped for Nala and slid her feet into her sandals in second, it honestly sounded like fun even if it didn't make sense to her. "Okay! Nala, you're in charge!" Jamison shouted over to the fluffy puppy resting on the couch, she'd lifted her head at the sound of her name, then lied back down when she realized she wasn't going with them.
The trip there was fast as the store was only ten minutes from the house, Jenna hoped out excitedly, wrapping her arm around Jamison's and smiling wide as they made their way into the store. It was cute and had a simple name as it wasn't one of the big companies, small enough that Jenna never remembered the name of the place, but it never mattered. Jamison led her to the paint section and stopped right in front of the wall of color cards. "Okay, you start looking and I'll get us everything we'll need." Jamison headed over the isle not far from where Jenna was standing, her eyes drifted over to all the color options and she felt overjoyed to see all the gorgeous colors. Jenna began going through the colors and deciding the ones that would absolutely not work, like yellow and orange were too bright, pink and purple were obviously out too. That left red, green, blue, and all the neutral colors. The neutral colors were all nice, but they were too safe, Jenna wanted to bring life into the room as it was a living room. She wanted to make the room feel bigger and happier, the color that Jamison had in there was a dark grey, and even though it may have been there before he moved in, it definitely needed to go. While Jenna had been looking around, a women near by had pulled her phone out of her purse, it rang the sound of thunder and lightning, and it intrigued Jenna to think about that color scheme. Some of them would be dark, but others would be bright, and with that in mind, Jenna began going through the blue section. In her mind, the color of a lightning bolt would be teal with hints of white, and of course the white would be the trim and maybe in other places too, she'd have to look around more and decide then.
"Did you find one miss paint expert?" Jamison teased and stood behind Jenna, his arms wrapped around her waist and resting his head on top of hers for a moment. "I did, I think we're gonna go with a lighting storm color scheme." Jenna looked up to see his expression and hoped he wouldn't completely hate it. "Whatever you think will look the best! Let's get some help and get out of here, I have one more surprise before we head back." Jamison held Jenna's hand and led her to the counter where they mixed the paint. Only about twenty minutes went by and they were on their way to the next stop. "Where are we going?" A smile carried over from Jenna to Jamison as if it were contagious. "Well, I don't want to ruin it but you'll see soon enough. Silence fell through the truck cab, Jamison rested his hand on top of Jenna's and they rode in peace to what turned out to be a doughnut shop, where Jenna picked out anything she wanted. A giant coffee and a couple dozens of doughnuts to get them through their coming up activity. Jenna's mood shot through the roof as they drove to Jamison's in's house, sipping on a Carmel macchiato and eating a cute doughnut that had the fall colors of red, orange and yellow painted on top.  Nala greeted them at the door with wet doggy kisses and little puppy howls of happiness.
Jamison helped carry in the paint while Jenna grabbed the food and came back for the paint pan and brushes. On her way in he had set the cans down on the table in the center of the room and also set perfectly with the couch. His furniture was set up so well that everything just seemed to belong. Rearranging this room would be hard, it was too perfect to touch, like a wedding cake you spent a thousand dollars on. "Alright, I see white and two shade of blue, what are you thinking baby?" Jamison had a sweet simple smile making Jenna feel warm and fuzzy. "Well, I had thought of a thunder storm in the store, but obviously we wont be painting literal lighting bolts. I was thinking we could do the light blue on all the walls accent the wall where the tv is. We can make that one an accent wall. The white will be for the trim, that's why we only needed a small can, but I figured you might have figured that out before we left." Jenna had explained while practically painting the walls with her hands, coffee in one and a new doughnut in the other. "I guessed so yes," Jamison laughed and pulled out a doughnut for himself. "I can picture it already! What do you say we get started?" Pulling out painters tape and starting to place it around the room, Jamison gave off so much happy energy that Jenna could feel it through the air. She started prying open the light blue and pouring it into one of the paint pans, getting started on the father wall with a sliding glass door. She could imagine the way the room was going to come together and was excited to see the result. Although, Jenna didn't want the day to end, she was having so much fun with Jamison that an end to this day made her sad for a moment. What was to happen after this? She'd have to go home, shower and bring Nala home. She missed her things and desperately wanted to shower and throw on some comfy clothes, climb into bed with her giant blanket and play music until she fell asleep. The idea of that sounded lame and depressing, but she felt like that was what she should do until the awful evening disappeared from her mind for good.
About an hour went by, they had gotten through all the walls but the last one. Jenna had started on the dark blue color while Jamison started on the trim. He had recommended Chinese take-out for dinner to save them some cooking and had taken a brief break to call it in. "Hey can you come and help me with top part of the wall over here?" Jenna had saved the top for last this time so that she could get his attention subtly. She was nervous but it was necessary. "Of course!" Jamison said in a silly voice, he did a cute little dance over to Jenna, kissing her forehead fast six times making her giggle. It was so easy to get lost in his happy mood that she'd forget about her question for a second. "Hey can I ask you something babe?" Jenna looked up and tried not to make him worry by her face, but that didn't seem to work. "Yeah! What's wrong?" Jamison made his way down the ladder and set the paint roller down, coming closer to Jenner making it known that he took her feelings very seriously. "Well, yes and no, but I just had to ask you, what happened with you and Jacob? I know you didn't want to tell me, but I'm curious. I won't tell anyone of course, I just can't settle my mind about it. If something really really bad happened.. " Jamison made a motion that he was going to speak, tell Jenna to pause without saying a word. "I don't want to scare you, I feel like I probably already did. Honestly, I'm surprised you even still want to be around me. When I asked about the paint I expected you'd want me to take you home." Jamison looked uneasy. "Well, I don't ask that because I'm worried about being around you if.. if you had killed him.. I ask that because if you did and got caught you'd go to jail." Jamison waited a moment, thinking before answering. "I.. didn't kill him, I shot in the air to warn him I'd kill him if he ever came near you again, and then I swung one last time leaving him unconscious. He's alive, but you shouldn't have any problems, and if you do I want you to call me and I'll come handle it." Jamison didn't blink or budge, his voice calm and his eyes gentle But serious. "Okay, I didn't know if you shot him to death but if you had, I wouldn't have been bothered by it. You don't scare me.. not in a sense that I'm scared of you. I'm more scared that I'll lose you." Jenna felt safe with Jamison, and she wanted him to know that. She wanted him to understand that no matter what happened in life that she would never see him as anything but the person that made her smile and feel comfort. "I wouldn't kill him unless I had to, I can settle this issues that come without having to end them, but if he comes back I won't hesitate. We may not have been together for more than six months, but I will always keep you safe." Jenna knew that he was her protector, even if she didn't see danger, he would. She also knew that he would always come to save her, that she could call him and say she needed him and he'd come no question. "Jenna, I would never let anything happen to you, and.. I asked you to paint the room because I want you to always feel at home when you're here. Actually, while you were choosing paint colors, I went and got this." Jamison paused for a moment and dug in his pocket, pulling out a cute little blue key with a photo of the two of them on the front of it. "I wanted to ask you if you'd mind living with me.. so I know you're always safe.. with me.. laying next to me so that I can always keep you safe." Jamison held the key in the palm of his hand and patiently waited for Jenna to look up at him. "I.. I had no idea you were thinking about it, the idea came to mind but I thought it might be too early." Jenna said lightly taking the key from Jamison's hand and smiling, "When do we start?" Jenna's face lit up with so much joy that she couldn't contain Her excitement, she was given the gift of safety, and in that moment she knew that from that point on she'd never have to wonder what strange noses came from outside or who might be at the front door unexpectedly. He would be there. He would always be there.
The rest of the day they spent their time eating dinner and snacks, watching movies and staying up all night talking. Jamison held Jenna until the sun came up, their souls becoming one, their hearts solidifying their love in great amounts. This would be a day she would always remember as a moment that gave their relationship a hurdle in life that they had bonded over and became stronger. Jenna knew that they were the definition of love, and it made her feel amazing.
