All you need to know is that Felicity Herman really likes Spencer Reid. And it scares her.

It scares her for a number of reasons and to understand those reasons, you also need to know that Felicity has only had terrible experiences with dating. She tried it, but one day Felicity realized that the men she went on dates with were highly strange, and that the one time she tried out dating a woman, they found they were better off friends. She still keeps in contact with Amelia, who was the youngest woman to make detective in the LAPD. Felicity was never actually an officer, but she did work so closely with them that eventually, she and Amelia became more than just work colleagues.

And then there were the men — a short list of disappointment. When she was 18, and an idiot, a 32-year-old man in her PhD program took an interest in her. Felicity, being a naive girl, said yes, and only came to her senses while sitting at the dinner table. She hightailed it out of there once realizing how creepy that guy actually was... Then there was another guy at the college, but he was... Well, to put it nicely, he was there because his parents paid for him to be there. Felicity couldn't date someone who didn't at least try to keep up with her.

Finally, there was Javier. He was perfect. He was so perfect that it was sickening. Felicity really liked him, and she loved his family. The fact that they owned the best taco shop in her neighborhood may have or may have not tremendously helped. But tacos aside, Javier was still perfect Javier. Kind, her age, sweet, could keep up with Felicity in his own way, and made delicious food. The textbook definition of perfect.

But it all ended. Which was Felicity's fault. She broke it off with him after a few months because she was moving across the country to Virginia. Javier was so perfect that he even offered to try and do a long distance relationship with Felicity. She said no, only because she knew statistics too well. She didn't want to take that chance. It would only hurt more.

Which leads her to now. Between studying at the FBI Academy, immediately joining the BAU, almost getting blown up, then going on medical leave for six months, Felicity hadn't had much time to dive into the world of relationships. Her relationships in the FBI and BAU had been mostly platonic, and up until recently, she didn't have any reason to believe otherwise. Until Spencer Reid asked her out on a date.

He asked her out. On a date.

He asked her out! On a date!

He! Asked! Her! Out! On a date!

Spencer asked her out on a date to go see a musical because he 'heard she was a fan', right after his birthday. Felicity didn't even see it coming. She was completely occupied, nose deep in her poetry book when Spencer sauntered up to her, all smooth like, or at least as smooth as Spencer Reid could get, and said, 'I heard you're a fan of musicals.'
