Lucky

"Get in," I hear Villessey say in a gruff tone.

"How the fuck do I know you're not leading me into a trap?" I am anxious my heart rate is so high right now I feel as if I am going to pass out as I teeter on the first rung of the long iron ladder fixed to what appears to be some kind of wall.

"You don't, however, I'm not. I am trying to save us from being shot at. Now get down and hurry up. I do not want to be out here any longer than necessary. It's my job to keep you safe."

"And who the hell shot Phillip?" I start to move down the rungs, the coldness apparent on my hands. I grip with my life because it looks a long way down as I look down to the stone floor beneath me. It's a good job I work out and have strong arms and not too afraid of heights.

"It would appear that Andrewkov took the shot." Villessey says as I see him closing the trap door and twisting a lock on it to secure it.

"He was supposed to be of one Nico's trusted ones," I am shocked to hear that he had to anything to do with it.

"You can't trust anyone Miss Gianluca. Can you hurry up so we can get down, you're taking your time." His voice is almost harsh, I'm not surprised it could have been him hit or myself, and that wouldn't have gone down too well with Nico. These guys are supposed to be put their lives behind us, to protect us.

I finally reach the bottom and see that there is a large iron door in front of me with a large round handle on it, the type you often see on the front of a bank vault. "Wait there, I'm coming." I watch as Villessey jumps down the last four rungs and turns to the imposing door. He punches in a code to the right on a lit-up keypad and then begins to turn the round handle, it clicks and the thick door opens.

He extends his arm to indicate that I should enter first. Okay, now I feel I can trust him this looks to be the tunnels that Nico mentioned to me the other night when were practically sexing in the kitchen. This must lead to beneath the kitchen. I let out a breath feeling safe for the first time since I heard the shot and saw Phillip bleeding out on the ground. My stomach clenches thinking about the young lad now dead, it saddens my heart.

"We need to go through the next set of doors, trust me Lucky you are safe," he says as he opens the other door much the same as the last one, again using the keypad and entering four digits. I check over his shoulder and see him pressing 8,9,3, 6 then scanning his thumb.

"Thanks, Villessey, it's shaken me."

"I can see that, it'd shake anyone. We will have him by now, there won't be any saving him after Aurora and Nico have finished questioning him."

"Will they kill him?" I don't know why I sound horrified at the thought of it, Nico is a Don after all and it's his business to kill people that piss him off or cross him. I shudder. I know taking a shot at me was the wrong thing to do in Nico's eyes, but for a man to lose his life because of it that seems wrong. Imprisonment would be a better option.

"They live by the sword they die by the sword is the expression we use, Lucky. He has crossed Nico and the Santangelo family, now he has to pay the price."

We go through the door, and I gasp at the opulence of the room I have just entered. The walls are painted a cream color, with two cream sofas facing each other, each with peacock blue and gold scatter cushions on them. There is a marble table in the middle with glossy magazines and in the corner to the right is a bar with high stools at it. A large flat screen is on the left wall over an unlit fireplace. Off the room are four more doors.

Villessey motions for me to follow him to a door on the right, "this will be your private area. Wait here do not move from the room. Nico will be here shortly."

"And my family? Will they be safe?"

Villessey nods, "everyone will be on their way. I have heard," he taps to his earpiece, "the families are being brought down. For now, they have Andrewkov and holding him."

He opens the door to where I should wait and I see a large four poster bed draped in pale silk curtains, matching spread on the bed and bolster cushions in a pearl, Damask fabric. There is a chaise lounge in the corner to match and a dressing table with glass bottles of fragrance, vintage ones at that. It's luxurious, and difficult to realize this is all under the original building.

"I am locking the door, Lucky. Do not try to open it. Like I said Nico will be along shortly." I gulp what if this is a set up? How do I actually know? I mean he would have all the codes if Nico trusted him, but then he trusted Andrewkov and look what happened there. My heart beats fast in my chest.

As if reading my mind, he reaches for a remote control by the bedside and presses a button. On the wall in front of me, I see it part halfway up and expose a large flat screen. "There are cameras, you can see everyone from here and shortly you will see Nico coming down into the tunnels. I won't hurt you Lucky. I've been there for Nico through thick and thin we have history."

I let out a sigh of relief and cannot wait for Nico to come to me. Villessey leaves the room as I throw myself on the bed and put my head in my hands and start to cry. I'm not usually a crying person but this whole situation has gotten to me, first a shooting out in Manhattan and now one of Nico's own people working against him.

Who the hell is this Yelena woman? What is her connection? What does she want with Nico and myself out of the way? I wish I had the answers, I wish I could be out of this nightmare and with my best friend Mia behaving like any other woman in her twenties, having fun, shopping, taking a coffee and you know just a normal existence.

This life as a Don's fiancée and wife to be is not something I want anymore. I need to get out of this arrangement, Nico has already told me he will not harm my father. Surely if he has feelings for me, then he would let me go. Wouldn't he?
