        Come on...  Come on!

You weren't athletic.  You never had been, choosing to nap and read horror threads on Ribbit and play video games.  Still, you tried to pull yourself in with all your might, nearly crying out as your split nail cracked down to the cuticle, bleeding onto the steel and making it even harder to get a grasp on.

You couldn't die here.  You couldn't!

The footsteps stopped just as you finally started to pull yourself through, inch by inch, sweat dripping down your face.

You were almost there.  You almost had it!

        "Found ya!"

You had almost made it completely into the vent, hanging on by the skin of your teeth, when you felt something cold and smooth wrap around your ankle and tug.  An almost inhuman screech left your mouth as you tried to scratch your way back into the vent, your nails scraping against the iron of the vent.  You kicked your foot out, trying to kick it away, and the tendril seemed to loosen.

Hope surged through you, and you started to claw your way up again.  The iron was slippery, the blood from your split nails making it hard to find purchase...

... and just when you had almost made it, that tendril was wrapping around your ankle again, tugging more insistently.

The damned thing was playing with you.

        "No...  no!"

You screamed as it started to drag you back out of the vent.  Pain lanced your fingertips, a piece of metal digging into the meat of your forearm.  This only caused the vent to be slicker with blood, coating your right arm and fingertips and making it all but impossible to get a grip as you were yanked out of the vents and sent crashing to the ground, your arm catching on the shelves.  It was a miracle it didn't break, although that was the least of your worries as your back hit the ground.  You gasped for breath, barely wheezing as you glanced up.

The demon towered over you, the black of its mass nearly engulfing your vision and disallowing the sight of anything else.  It's grin was uncannily wide as it leered down at you, a tendril still wrapped around your foot.

"My, my...  What a smart little human.  Almost got away, sneaky little human!"

It reached out a clawed hand, gripping your throat and lifting you from the ground with ease.  It didn't squeeze tight enough to bruise or cut off oxygen, but the threat was clearly there, its sharp claws resting daintily on the side of your throat.  If it squeezed, no doubt would those claws go straight through your jugular.

Although you could still breathe perfectly fine, your hands still flew up to try and pry the demon's clawed hand from your throat, only for its fingers to flex threateningly.

"Now, now...  I caught ya fair and square!"  It lifted you closer to its maw, jaw opening wide as if it intended to swallow you whole.  You tensed, squeezing your eyes shut and waiting for the pain of its sharp teeth ripping through you...
