The morning sun streamed through the towering windows of King's Cross Station, casting golden light over the bustling crowd. Selene stood with Sirius, her hand clutching the handle of her new trunk, the cool metal biting into her fingers. The platform swirled with color and laughter, but their parents’ stern voices cut through the warmth like ice.

“Remember,” their mother intoned, her eyes cold and calculating. “You carry the Black name. I expect nothing less than the highest standards.”

Their father gave a brief nod, barely sparing them a glance. “Do our House proud.”

The words were familiar but heavy, like stones settled into Selene’s chest. She glanced at Sirius beside her. His gaze was distant, but a hint of rebellion glinted in his gray eyes, a fire that she knew would only grow stronger. He offered a stiff nod in response to their parents before turning back to her.

They didn’t say goodbye, only stepped back, watching as the twins took their first steps onto the train. Selene led the way, weaving through the narrow corridor as students jostled past, their chatter filling the air. She felt the faintest glimmer of excitement—despite the warnings and expectations, this was Hogwarts. Their future.

As they passed a few compartments, she spotted familiar faces—cousins whose dark eyes held the same cold pride as their parents. She felt an instinctive pull, a sense of belonging, and turned to Sirius, nodding toward the compartment. “I think I see our cousins. We could join them, if you want.”

Sirius shook his head, a shadow crossing his face. “No, Selene. I don’t want to sit in there, suffocated by all that… rubbish about blood purity and family honor.” He glanced at her, his expression softening. “Let’s find somewhere else. Just us.”

For a moment, Selene hesitated. She felt the weight of expectation, the subtle reminder of her mother’s warning that they were never alone, that eyes were always watching. But Sirius’s face was open, hopeful. She felt her resolve waver, and then she nodded, following as he led her toward an empty compartment.

They settled into the seats, the hum of the train growing louder as it began to move. For the first time, it was just the two of them, their own space, a rare freedom from watchful eyes. The view outside the window blurred as the countryside rushed by, and Selene leaned back, feeling a strange sense of calm.

“Do you think it’s going to be… different here?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Sirius grinned, a spark of excitement lighting his face. “Different? Absolutely. It’s a whole new world, Selene. No parents, no rules. Just us.”

Selene’s lips curved into a tentative smile, the words comforting despite the doubts that lingered. She looked at her brother, his face alight with excitement, and felt a flicker of hope. Perhaps Hogwarts could be a place for both of them, a place to find themselves—even if it meant stepping away from the shadows of the Black family.
