A carpet stained red with blood. Hands enveloped in sin. A life consumed by suffering. The life of a Royal Agent.

Aaron watched as Daniel Hurke walked into the room, grunting in discomfort as he struggled to shrug off his blazer. Light led him to his desk, and only then did Hurke realize that he was not alone.

One in the morning, a rather strange time for the Hurke to be out and about. Walking down the back-alleys with a gun attached to his head.

He slowly turned from the window at the edge of the room. His hands creeper up on his desk drawer, inching to grab the loaded weapon.

"Why are you here?" Hurke asked, his lips curled in a soft grimace.

"You've been running your mouth."

The man sat down, a hand coming up on the desk while the other remained hidden.

"You can run it all the way you'd like," Aaron continued, "but Eve doesn't like where you stick your hands."

At this, Hurke chuckled.

"Please, spare me. If Eve wanted to chop my hands off, she would have done it already. I know that woman," he sighed, "She is quite the pushover."

Aaron tried his best to keep composure and a steady face. Hurke wasn't making it easy, with his easygoing posture and half-thought remarks. The man didn't seem the least bit concerned as to why an ARK agent was in the same room as him.

Nobody spoke. Aaron could see his hand slowly going down. There was a gun.

In an instant, Hurke pulled the gun out of the drawer and aimed for the heart across from him. Aaron stood carefully still.

"Let's me ask again; why are you here?"

Aaron watched to see if the gun would move. It didn't.

"You've been making some questionable choices."

Hurke scoffed. "Get out of my sight before I pull the trigger."

"I'm sorry, I cant do that, Sir," Aaron said slowly as he stepped a little closer to the end of the pointed gun.

"What're you gonna do, huh?" Hurke chuckled, his hand shaking from the humor he saw. "I'm the number one fucking candidate for senator. I've got some high bidders on my win."

"I understand," Aaron said. "Which is why I can't let you leave."

In an instant, Hurke's gun was taken out of his hand by a slap to the wrist. A cold, metal rod pressed against his forehead. In the moonlight, Aaron could see the sweat running down his jaw and the envelope placed in his inner pocket.

A star exploded in Daniel Hurke's office.

Dante glanced to his left where Eve was standing.  They had just left a meeting concerning the death of the next senator. Of course, it didn't go too well. Thing never went too well with ARK.

It was like the ugly duckling in the family of government agencies. Daniel Hurke was not who he seemed, and Eve presented that in the meeting. He was working for the Ferrari organization, and had another month passed, the family would have held more power than anyone in the underworld. That couldn't happen.

Of course, the rest of the senators and government officials didn't like that. They had let a scum climb too far, right under their noses.

Dante understood that despite the work she had done, Eve would never get applause. After all, ARK was the black sheep, and nobody liked to get their hands dirty. Now it was November, and the trees were dying.
