Is it love?

The school years passed fast with Gwendolyn making good friends with those that she met on the train, including the werewolf.  She went looking for him on the first full moon in their first year.  Their friendship was private to the rest of his friends as he wanted to have something that was all for him.  She taught him to connect with his wolf Moony so he wouldn’t have to suffer in case there was ever a time she couldn’t make it.  The Marauders eventually put together that Remus is a werewolf and became an illegal animagus for him.   This ruined his full moons with Gwendolyn, so they found other times to get together in private.

When Gwendolyn was young and still had her parents, she quite fancied Sirius.  She spent most of her time with him when they’d visit the Black family or when the Black family visited them.  So Gwendolyn felt so lucky at the age of fifteen when Sirius turned his charm on her.  They dated for about a month before he left her for another.  It broke her heart and frustrated Reggie and his friends who had been watching over her all these years at Hogwarts.  Reggie wished she’d look at him the way she looked at his brother.  Finally, that brings us to her fifth year.  Officially a year since she briefly dated Sirius.  It was on this first day back at school that she stumbled upon James by himself as she was walking along the Black Lake.

~Gwendolyn’s POV~

“Are you ok?” I asked as I dropped down in front of the boy.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” James said as he avoided the girl’s eyes.

“You know James, maybe there’s someone out there who will appreciate your love language.  Don’t change your love language for anyone because I like your language how it is now.” I said before standing and brushing a kiss atop the boy’s head.

I began to walk away but stopped when I heard him call out to me.

“Hey Hufflepuff, what’s your name?” James called out.

“Figure it out.  I’m sure a Marauder such as yourself has his ways.” I answered with a wink.

I ended up skipping away with a giggle.  I felt a little more light hearted then I had in a while.

“What were you doing talking to a marauder?” Sylvie asked as she joined her arm with mine.

“Cheering him up is all.  Why do you fancy him?  I can direct his love language your way if you’d like.” I teased.

“Moi?  Non.  I like zee men not so loud.” Sylvie said.

“I get it.  I don’t think I’d mind it, though.  He’s a romantic.  Flowers every day.  With him I’d never doubt I’m loved.” I said with a smile.

“Ah yes.  A flower likes to look beautiful on zere own.  Not to mention, have gentle attention.  A flower can’t be handled roughly.  A boy like ‘im would overshadow her, and ‘is attention would be too rough.” Sylvie said of Lily.

~3rd POV Again~

Unbeknownst to the two girls, James had caught up and heard the last thing the Hufflepuff said and also what the Ravenclaw had said.  The Marauders had already been getting through to him that he doesn’t really know Lily, just like she doesn’t know him.   How could he know her when he’s never actually had a conversation with her.  He was thinking maybe they were right.  He’d become caught up in her eyes that were the color of grass, and it was a go from that moment.

With that in mind, he made sure no one was around as he pulled out his trusty map.  He then knew that Gwendolyn Jade Sylvestrus and Sylvie Delacour were the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw walking ahead of him.  He paused on Gwen’s name.  Wasn’t she Jade Silver?  Why did it show up as Gwendolyn Jade Sylvestrus?  That family name was familiar to him, and it was nagging him to figure it out.  He went back to his common room, where the rest of the Marauders were hanging out.

“Hey what do you know about a Hufflepuff named Jade Silver?” James asked his friends.

“She’s always really nice to me and funny!  I’ve partnered with her one year in potions.” Peter exclaimed.

“I don’t know who she is.” Sirius said with a shrug.

“She is really secretive.” Peter said.

“Anything Moony?” James asked.

“Why do you want to know, Prongs?” Remus asked in a calm tone with an agitated undertone.

“She caught my interest.  She has pretty green eyes too, and she likes my love language.” James said in a dreamy tone.

“What’s a love language?” Peter asked.

“How you express your interest in someone Wormy.” Remus said offhandedly.

Remus and Moony were both worried.  They knew their little Artemis was already hurt by one of his friends who didn’t even remember her based on this conversation.  But also because she was theirs.  She had been Remus’s good friend, but he’s older now, and it had grown into more for him.  The truth reared itself when he found out about her and Sirius and especially after Sirius hurt her.

“Do any of you know the Sylvestrus family?” James asked.

Remus noted the way Sirius head snapped up at that question.

“Why do you ask?” Sirius asked cautiously.

“I heard it mentioned recently, and it sounded familiar, but I can’t remember how I know it.” James answered.

“Isn’t that the last name of Merlin?” Peter asked.

The Marauders all stared at Peter for being the one to know that.

“Yes, that is the family name of Merlin.” Sirius asked.

“Are there any of his line still around?” James asked.

“There was.  Their daughter was being arranged to be betrothed to my little brother.  I played with her all the time.  She was to be my brother’s, but she always preferred me.” Sirius said with a smirk.

“Well what happened to them?” James asked.

“Death eaters wiped out the last of Merlin’s line.” Sirius said solemnly.

“Are we sure?  All of them were found?” James asked.

“I’m not sure.  I’m not about to ask my parents.  The death of the Sylvestrus family is the reason my family is no longer aligned with the Dark Lord.  My mother is already scary, but she becomes worse if you remind her of them.  Why are you so curious?  I get you heard someone reference the family, but why would that have you asking if they’re definitely all dead?” Sirius asked suspiciously.

James shrugged it off without an answer.  That night, James checked on the map again.  But it wasn’t to check on his precious Lilypad.  She wasn’t even a thought in his mind.  No, he was checking on Jade.  Seeing that she still showed up as a Slyvestrus on the map and the map doesn’t lie.  James fell asleep with thoughts of a Hufflepuff and the mystery surrounding her dancing through his head.
