Usually Friday nights were reserved for going out. Usually I'd be dressed up, out and about, draped over my fiancés arm. But fate is a cruel mistress. Fate dealt me a partner who I thought was perfect in every way imaginable, someone who I could be happy with a grow old next to. That wasn't the case.

Last Thursday I finished work early, wanting to surprise my partner with a long dirty weekend away. I picked a place he always wanted to go and bought the most expensive, slutty underwear I could find, all for nothing.

When I walked through the door I called for him, eager to reveal my surprise, receiving no answer. I walked through the house, not seeing him in another of the rooms. It wasn't until I got to the door that lead to the bedroom when I started to hear things. The sort of thing you don't expect to be coming from your bedroom when you're not in there. My heart was in my throat as I pushed the door open, fearing the worst. Although what I imagined to find was no where near as world shattering as what I did find.

My fiancé, My soon to be husband thrusting himself into somebody who wasn't me. He didn't notice me at first. I just stood there in shock and disbelief watching the person who I thought loved me, fucking someone else. It wasn't until his lover spoke that I realised who was lying underneath him. My very own sister.

A whimper left my lips as the realisation hit me, which is when they both saw me standing there, baring witness to their betrayal.

So the very next day I packed up my things and left, forced to rent a place on the bad side of town with the little I could afford.

It was a low point for me. My life stopped. I haven't even bothered to unpack my things so I was just sitting around in the what I'd packed for my weekend, knowing my new lingerie wouldn't get any other use.

My new apartment was far from what I was used to. It was small, a lot smaller than my last place. It was also very loud. The street outside was busy with cars and people, not letting up even in the early hours. The crime rate around here was also far from ideal, so I had to spend the little money I had left, after paying my deposit, on a dead bolt and chain for the front door. But I still didn't feel safe even with the new additions to the place.

I often found myself waking during the night to some sort of noise or another. I was so desperate to get out of here I almost went back to my ex when he promised he'd ended things with my sister. Although my best friend managed to talk me out of it, promising she'd help find me somewhere more suitable to live very, very soon.

But that promise wouldn't help me when one night I woke to the sound of my bedroom door opening.

My eyes shot open in panic and all breathing seized entirely. In that moment I was a living statue as I heard someone walking into my room, armed with a flashlight that kept swishing around the room like my intruder was searching for something.

As the person stepped into the room I pinched my eyes shut and pretended to be asleep. Maybe if they thought I was they would leave me alone? Maybe they would take whatever it is they wanted and go?

All I could do was listen as the persons foot steps swept across the room, moving from one space to another, in no sort of pattern I could detect. It was if they were testing the floor for a weak spot, maybe a hidden compartment I'd failed to notice. I tried to keep my breathing even. I tried to not give myself away, but the intruders footsteps came closer. Too close. A whimper escaped my lips as the footsteps edged towards my bed. At the sound of my cowardice the duvet was ripped from the bed and a strong hand grasped my ankle. For a second I feared the worst that he would pin me down and take advantage, but that wasn't the case. He tugged my body from the bed, dragging me by the ankle as I kicked and screamed.
