If I told you I was looking forward to going home for the Christmas holiday it would have been an understatement. I was in my final year of college and I was beyond stressed with exams and papers and everything else my professor chose to throw my way. I was in hell. But there was a light at the end of the tunnel. I only had a few more months after the winter holidays before it was all over. Before I could move to the city and pursue my career, my dream job as an editor as a very popular fashion magazine.
I would be living the dream... well, in like 6 months.
My only worry besides college was my mum. She wasn't one to moan, but I could tell she was lonely. She'd been lonely since my dad past five years ago, but it had gotten a lot more worse after I left for college. She wouldn't tell me, she wouldn't want me to worry, but other family members and friends would talk to me. It felt like a dagger to the heart, knowing she had been struggling while I went on living my life. But not too long ago she met someone. A new man. I was happy for her at first. I was glad she found someone, but then she would mention money going missing from her purse or a necklace disappearing. I had my suspicions but my mother wouldn't hear anything bad said about her new boyfriend, Kyle.
I hadn't met him yet, but I had my reservations. I was sure he was the cause for all the things that seemed to go missing from my mother's house and while I was on my Christmas break I was going to prove it. I would show my mum exactly the kind of person he was, so I could get rid of him and hopefully enjoy some of my time off.
That was the plan...
'Hey, mum. I'm home.' I shouted as I walked through the front door, struggling with my bags.
'Hey, sweetie. We're in here.' My mum called from the kitchen.
As I approached the room I could hear giggling. I hadn't heard that sound come from my mum since my dad was still alive. It was nice to hear.
As I turned the corner I got a waft of freshly baked cookies my mum was pulling from the oven. I was just about to say hi when a pair of hands shot out from behind my mother, cupping her breasts.
'Get off, you pest.' My mother joked.
'I can't help myself baby, your tits are just too hard to resist.' A deep voice said from behind her.
Ew.
I coughed to make my presence known, having heard and seen more than enough.
The hands released my mum instantly as a man nearer my age stepped out from behind my mum.
'Hey, sweetie. We didn't see you there.' My mum says.
'Clearly.' I reply, looking her new boy toy up and down.
'You must be Charlotte the guy says to me.' Coming around to hug me.
I don't return the hug when he embracing me, too grossed out he'd just been groping my mum.
'I'm Kyle.' He tells me.
'I know.' I reply.
'You can tell you two are related. You're just as beautiful as your mum.' He says, making my skin crawl with his eagerness to impress me.
'Dinner is in a few hun. Feel free to go get cleaned up and I'll call you when it's ready.' My mum offers.
I walked off, towards the stairs just wanting to lay down for a second and rest my eye. I wonder into my old room, practically throwing myself on the bed as I wait for my mum to call me for dinner.
'Your mum tells me, you don't like me very much.' A voice sounds from the doorway.
He caught me by surprise for a second. I hadn't even heard him approach my door until he spoke. But I didn't want to show him I was bothered. So I rolled over on the bed to face him.
