_CHAPTER THIRTEEN_
The Walls That Divided Them Now Crumbled
It was very tempting to visit the abandoned tunnels after founding out through that kangaroo rat. She was from a different school that was far from the lake that divided Gryphon Cross and their rivalled school: Selkie School for Gifted Girls.
From what he had observed, a handful of Selkie Girls were attending the camp too. How does he know? The minute a Gryphon Cross made an eye-contact with a Selkie Girl, there will be a heated rivalry that resembled those between felines and canines.
Only, it was between an all-boys school and an all-girls school.
During his whole month at the camp, Sameer had been focusing on the activities, trying to form bonds with other campers besides his own cabin mates and finish his Mr Twilight book.
"Hey Sameer!" Beppi called him from below. He smiled, lowering half of his body to greet him.
"Just in time too! I just finished my book. So, what happened?"
"The blind bat from our cabin's battling out with a Selkie in ping-pong!" the Tasmanian devil was practically bouncing in his step. He won't admit it but the young devil was growing on him.
"This I have to see!"
...
True enough, Arthur was playing ping-pong with a black swan. Sameer was surprised at how good he was despite being blind.
"He's really good at it," Sameer commented, watching the game. "Let's go, Arthur!"
"Come on! Take one for the team, Arabelle!" one of the Selkie girls, an Arabian horse cheered at the swan.
"I know you can't see but you can do it, bat!" a member from the Hurricane cabin, an anteater, clapped.
From what he remembered, each cabin housed six animals. Three cabins for eighteen girls while the remaining three for eighteen boys. The names of each cabin were: Hurricane, Typhoon, Tsunami, Maelstrom, Blizzard and Hailstorm.
Not only were there carnivores and herbivores, but there were also marine animals as well since the camp was connected to the lake and had different access areas for marine campers to get by.
Needless to say, the match ended in a tie because one of the counsellors had called everyone over to the mess hall for lunch. Sameer slithered up to Arthur, placing his tail on his fluffy back.
"That was amazing. How did you know where the ball is if you can't see?"
The Honduran white bat smiled, showing his little fangs. "Oh, I listened to where the ball was hit. When it bounced off the table, that's when I knew where to hit or when it's coming at me."
It was something Sameer never knew about. And yet, Arthur looked like he could see the ball when he was playing the game with Arabelle. On television and from what he has read, most blind animals tend to have sunglasses and a cane.
"How come you don't have a cane or sunglasses?"
"Don't need one. When I am blind, my other senses become stronger."
No one ever talked about that in school the Egyptian cobra thought to himself. Feeling awkward with the silence hanging between the both of them, Sameer decided to guide Arthur to have lunch with him.
Today's lunch menu was bean burger with fries for carnivores and veggie burger with sweet potato fries for herbivores.
The whole mess hall became quiet when both bat and cobra entered. It was unlikely that the bat would make friends due to his blindness or the cobra who was the son of the judge.
