It had been half a sun since the dream and the thought of it had gone. The horrors chilling down his spine was not like before lurking in every thought. He had tried to get rid of it but it still haunted him until it went away with the natural occuring process of time. Thunderclaw was growing older and was soon going to get another bird take the place of Admiral. The obvious choice to take the place would be Talonstrike, as he has been with the flock and has served it well, having great loyalty and courage shown in the last battle that had been fought with Skullflock and Fireflock. The flock had suffered much in that battle but Talonstrike was the reason they had won. The next conference would be starting in three more moons and by then, Thunderclaw would retire from position of Admiral and Talonstrike would take place, the news being shared at the gathering. In thirteen moons he would also be named as a hunter and would have his full name instead of 'wing' as his suffix. Emberwing wondered what his new name would be. Emberrain? Emberplume? Emberflight?
Emberwing woke up to his name being called in the distance. He lifted his head up in a signal that he was to not be disturbed, but his name kept being called. "Ugh, what?"
"Emberwing come here! I need to show you something!" Emberwing recognised the voice to belong to Leatherclaw.
"Okay..." Emberwing groaned loudly. He took off to the call of Leatherclaw and landed down near him. "Yeah?"
"Your wings healed, right?"
"Yeah?"
"Alright, good. Just checking." And he walked off. Emberwing said nothing and preened his wings, his mouth gaping open in a yawn. "Its dawn, why am I tired?" He questioned. "I don't know, I'll ask Auraflare if I can go hunting." He padded after the still minimally visible shape of Leatherclaw before taking flight to efficently shorten the flight time. By the time he was there, the flock was already socializing with eachother.
I'll just go ask Auraflare if I can hunt...
He padded over to the spot where Auraflare was laying and greeted him.
"Yo Auraflare!"
"Yeah...?"
"Can I go hunting?"
"Sure, unless you're still injured. You've been hunting for the past few moons on your own, right? There isn't really much hunting going on seeing as some of us only eat plants.
"Yeah, alright," Emberwing darted forward in the opposite direction of his previous standpoint and took off from the grass to spot for prey. I wonder how other birds eat plants...? It was near the Rockriver where he had stopped at, beneath the old sycamore he sat, relievng energy for flight. How can a tree be that big? It was spottable from all the flocks and even had a direct path into Fireflock. There was a cave on the right of the tree that was blocked off by dozens of large boulders that collapsed long before the birds settled here. Before he could think long, he scented a Fireflock bird passing by near the sycamore. Emberwing could not deal with any intruders as he was still under training. He hid on the far side of the tree where there could not be seen by anyone passing through.
"I smell a Mooner, I'll deal with em'," the bird said.
Emberwing then scented more birds, all coming from Fireflock.
"Alright, me and Heatshadow'll go get her," a second voice said.
"Alright Heatstorm," the first voice replied.
"By the way, Ignitewing," a third voice, probably Heatshadow, said. "Call for us if you need us. Moonflock seems to be pretty tricky here."
"Sure," Ignitewing mumbled.
What am I going to do? They are going to see me! And they will kill me and they will bite me and I'm not experienced with fighting! Someone help! Please! That battle training wont get me anywhere! If I make a warning call they'll kill me off! They'd know where! Why when I try to go hunting this happens? Why me?
He didn't obey his own thoughts and let out a loud 'CAW!' The sound was loud enough to bounce all the way back and fourth through echolocation and reach the camp. He hoped someone would hear it because 'Ignitewing' definetely did.
"I've finally got you!" He shouted. Emberwings attempts to fly away were useless because Ignitewing grabbed his tail and thrusted him backwards. "You're dead!" He took Emberwings tail and slammed his head on the sycamore. He let go and threw Emberwing a lengths aways.
"What did I do?" Emberwing questioned frantically.
"You didn't do anything..." Ignitewing said grimly. He darted at Emberwing and pecked away at his wings in an attempt to immoblizing Emberwings flight, but he quickly fought back and got free from Ignitewings grasp and flew away at his maximum speed. Ignitewing followed closely behind. The camp is that way! Why when I try to have a peaceful life this happens! He flew towards the spot where the nests were located and it finally came into vision. Yes! When he was right about to land in his home, Igniteing grabbed his tail.
"Do ya' really think I could let you off that easily?" Ignitwing thrusted upwards, in risk of stalling, and once he was high enough, gripped Emberwings wing with his beak.
The grip of his beak let loser...
And he let go...
